Mattia Perin made nine saves against Stuttgart, equalizing Abbiati's record as the only other Juventus goalkeeper to have made so many saves in a single Champions League game in 2003/2004.

MATTIA PERIN RENEWS UNTIL 2027!

It was already in the air, as Mattia himself mentioned in his press conference before the UEFA Champions League match against Stuttgart: “My contract renewal? I am talking with the club and there is a desire to continue on both sides. I am very happy. In the coming days there will be news.”

And that very news has just arrived, right on time: Mattia Perin will continue his adventure with Juventus until 30 June 2027.
It’s a contract renewal that has been made official today – Wednesday, 23 October 2024 - after his man-of-the-match performance on Tuesday against Stuttgart, even saving a penalty, but which unfortunately was not enough to avoid the Club’s first defeat of the season in all competitions.

why did juve waste money on di gargolyle when this guy was available?

i know the throaters will say because he is good with his feet, but so far no goals or assists from di gargoyle, only red card.
A armchair human being, that has never played GK, trying to analyze a GK.

Why not analyze and start reviewing tampons, my friend? Hahaha

Let's be honest, he could easily have been our number 1 this season (and probably last year too).

@Lion gets a bit of criticism but putting our funds into another goalkeeper when there are so many glaring holes in the squad is another poor use of resources. We seem to have developed an obsession with having two very good goalkeepers which a lot of other clubs don't bother with. Perin number 1 and a decent freebie number 2 would have been fine to tide us over for a season or two.

He is great goalkeeper, but his unfortunately u can see he lacks something when he has to play with the ball. That's why, even though I think he is better than MDG I agree that Di Gregorio should be a starter - simply fits our game style better.

I partly agree. My question is: to what extent does the fact that MDG fitting our game style better than Perin really help improve our game?

If fitting the game style mainly means he is better with his feet @Lion and can thus start the play as the 1st attacker in buildup, helping keeping possession (something Motta values most I believe), are there any stats, analyses that can confirm that when MDG is the GK, our team does do better in this aspect than when Perin is? Or is it only through eye test?

If there is not, than him fitting the game style simply doesn't mean that much. In this regard, goalkeeping skills should be of more relevance to judge a GK, as it always should be.

He is a greater goalkeeper. Always was.
I mean, that's not true, and I've been a defender of him over the years. He had some very shaky moments in his Juve career and you can see that reflected in this thread (I won't quote posts), but there's no doubt that he has become more consistent as he's aged.

Interesting point that Juve always try to have two strong keepers - but he agreed to be a #2 for most of his Juve career, he could easily have started elsewhere. It's good that he is getting more chances now than playing 5 league games and Coppa.
