Perin: 'Air of victory at Juve'
By Football Italia staff

Mattia Perin hinted at a Juventus transfer as he can “breathe in the air of victory” in Turin ahead of Italy’s friendly with the Netherlands.

The goalkeeper is expected to start Monday’s friendly against Holland, which will be played at the Allianz Juventus Stadium.

Reports today suggest that will be his club home next season, as a move for €15m including bonuses is almost complete.

“I am only thinking about the Nazionale. My agent will do the rest and I am trying to leave the transfer market out of my mind for now,” said the Genoa goalkeeper during a Press conference.

“We secured safety with Genoa, I said there was a good chance I would leave Marassi and I feel ready for the step up in my career. I’m glad we are training at (Juventus camp) Vinovo. You can breathe in the air of victory here.”:touched:
Perin does not seem to be put off by the possibility of being on the bench behind Wojciech Szczesny.

“I’d have to fight for my place at any club and having a strong teammate in goal doesn’t worry me. I’ve changed over the last two years, I think in a positive way, and feel more balanced. I’m someone with courage, as I needed it to overcome two serious knee injuries in quick succession.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma started against Saudi Arabia, Salvatore Sirigu took the gloves with France last night and Perin is the other candidate to replace Gigi Buffon.

“Gigi is a reference point for all of us and there are many goalkeepers who aspire to the Italy Number 1 jersey. He’s one of the best in the world and always responded to critics with his performances on the field. I respect Buffon a great deal and we have an exceptional rapport. There’s so much to learn from him, on and off the field.

“Besides, if Gigi wants to return, he is still a candidate for the Italy shirt.”

New Italy Coach Roberto Mancini is focusing on youth and renovation in his friendlies, beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 and losing 3-1 to France.

“He is a Coach who from the start showed faith in us. We are a young group, confidence makes us give 110 per cent. Tactically and technically, I think he’s leading us well and the players work hard for him.

“Against France, we saw the difference between the teams at this moment in time, but we showed good things too. We’re on the right track and that performance gave us confidence.

“France can win the World Cup and we caused them real problems. In a year or two, we can be at their level. We’ve only been together for 12 days, but there is a lovely atmosphere and we have fun, both on and off the field.”
I trust insigne and jorginho will say they won the honest scudetto to perin

I believe he is a good catch, quality goalkeeper, even promising, still relatively young and joining in for a very reasonable fee+wage, might not make much sense now considering that Sczesnny is supposed to start next season but i think we can all agree it's definitely better having someone almost on the same level as him to cover and provide competition.

All in all, truly smart move considering that we could even make a profit on him next mercatto in case things don't work out, nothing really to lose from this.

why not? dead serious question. who we should have been targeting as a 2nd choice gk?
Because Szczęsny is only 28yo and his best GK years are ahead of him. Main GK always gets huge minutes during the season. It has nothing to do with competition like for other position, since pretty much every club has it's main GK and somebody for bench. IMO our bench option should be an oldie who will play in Coppa or if our main guy gets injured. Storari deal was amazing. And I think having Abbiati here was pretty good too. But Perin? He's 25yo. He's a good GK, I don't really mind the guy, but I think Polak is way ahead of him at this point. Why would we sign a 25yo? Not that he's too young, but why would he throw his career away just like that by sitting on the bench? Again, I'll repeat, having competition so they both fight for minutes doesn't really work for me. I might be wrong but I don't think top clubs swich GKs during the season that often. Bar one season, I think Gigi always had 3000+ minutes every season, while he was on 4k once.

I'd rather get somebody cheaper but solid, older GK who's supposed to be benched, and invest the money elsewhere. It's not like we don't have troubles on other areas on the pitch.

I think the plan is for Szczesny to play the most and get sold for a decent fee, then Perin takes over for 10 years (Italian goalie blah blah blah). Must be awkward for Szczesny when the writing is on the wall.

That would be absolutely terrible.

One of the best keepers in Serie A for me. Always impressed. Arguably on the same level with Sceszny just less experience.

I think this season will be a battle for #1 and whoever comes out second will probably want to move on to get a starting role somewhere else.

Either way... profit $$$ :beppe:

That would be quite a betrayal from Juve. :D

Here you can see Szczęsny in a very popular show here in Poland (from the end of November) and guy of course asked him why he chose a club where he would sit on the bench and that Buffon might decide to play for a little bit longer. Szczesny replied that many clubs tried to sign him, but then came 'the biggest or one of the biggest in Europe' that had a detailed plan for his person. That the talks were not like 'come to us, you are good, now Buffon plays but we will see how it goes.', but he received a detailed scenario how this season will look like, how the next season will look like etc. And he liked it very much and signed.
Host asks 'and you trust each other (with the club)? Szczęsny: 'Of course, so far everything is just like they presented.'
H: You want to be the first goalkeeper of Juventus, right?
S: Of course, and this is also their idea.

15mil are enough to make a difference in this mercato
there are rarely things like "this mercato" as player fees are spread over the contract period. a 15m perin with a 5-year contract would cost juve 3m/year. a bit over 0,5% of a ~500m revenue.

allegri is different to most coaches, i guess he even likes to rotate the goalies. also, with our injury record, we just cannot rely on one single keeper. and let's be honest, while i rate szczesny, he had a worse save % than buffon last year, so it should be about healthy competition within the squad, too. i'm positive he'll finish the season well over 1500 minutes in all competitions (especially with an other good coppa campaign).

i'd prefer mirante to perin only because mirante would qualify for a homegrown spot in the squad for both cl and serie a. otherwise, perin looks like a safe bet. i'd say the same for someone like sportiello i guess.

Cheaper? It's 11 million +3/4 in bonuses. There ain't much cheaper around if you want quality. We also had Neto btw as a young backup goalie...

So what is your issue here exactly? The money we're spending?

I'm truly very happy with this deal. What a great addition to the squad, him and Szczęsny will be getting the best out of each other, a sort of a healthy competition. We would always be counting on 2 very good GKs to start on any given Sunday.

That's a one section we've got taken care of, now let's boost up our midfield with quality.
