Chiellini: 'Caldara a CR7 sacrifice’
By Football Italia staff

Giorgio Chiellini was 'sorry’ to see Mattia Caldara leave Juventus for Milan, describing him as a 'sacrifice’ following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Caldara was involved in the recent 'mega-deal’ between the Old Lady and the Rossoneri - which took him and Gonzalo Higuain to San Siro, with Leonardo Bonucci moving in the opposite direction.

It means that despite his highly promising two-year loan spell at Atalanta, the 24-year-old defender left without making an appearance for Juve’s first team.

“He was a player who could have done very well here,” admitted Chiellini. “He had everything needed to do well.

”I understand he was in a situation where it was difficult to refuse a transfer.

“And so Juventus, with a heavy heart, had to sell him.”

Chiellini added that he had high hopes for Caldara, describing him as an unfortunate but necessary 'sacrifice’ the Serie A champions had to make after signing Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

“He was a boy we were all looking at, we had seen him and waited for him. Even last year it was all prepared for.

"The dynamics of the transfer market, however, are particular and the great signing of Ronaldo meant there were sacrifices.

“Unfortunately, Mattia came into that situation. I am sorry for it, like all of Juve, because he was a good boy and could have been here for many years.

“I hope I can help him as an opponent because he is a boy who has something more not just on the pitch, but off the pitch.”

Thats depressing. Our management and players are oviously aware of his potential but unfortunately someone had to go in order to get rid of Higuain.

From GC's statement than it was all BUSINESS. Disappointing cause not lack of talent eventually showing through. I know he can come back, but if at Milan he and team excel, why would he?

I mean how can the significance of serie advance if we look at Milan as a feeder club. And don't be surprised at the 2020 WC if the starting Italia CBs are again both from one club.

i still feel terrible sorry for this guy. this is the worst deal marotta has ever done. if we wanted bonucci back so bad, we should have just sold sturaro for the highest bidder (which is bound to happen anyway), plusvalenza the hell out of some youngsters, and start the season with 6 cb's. we'll have 3 over 32 cb's next summer instead, and will spend 50m on de ligt.

all that for a plusvalenza of 20-something millions. fucking retarded.

Bonucci hasn’t been perfect so far, but his performances in the CL have been great. Milan haven’t had a clean sheet since the start of the season. They might end up regretting this move.
doubt it. Bonucci was a flop for them and was on 8M net wages. Caldara-Romagnoli is one hell of a partnership for the future, since thats what they are building for it seems. they have an interesting group of players that are 25 years old or younger, Caldara will have time to grow into the team

Looking to the future is fine and all, but Milan are in a dire financial situation even under the new ownership and need to consistently make the CL in the next few years to get out of it.

Well right now Milan defense looks like a complete disaster. Romagnoli is playing really poorly since Leo left too, he looked much better when he had Bonucci next to him.
And yeah Bonucci was a flop at the start of the season but once Gattuso took control of the team he was playing decent at least.

agree about the finances, their revenue is in dire need of some CL money. lets see if they can do it this year, its early in the season and they didnt look promising at all, but they still have decent chances. inter (3rd, 19pts) and Lazio (4th, 18pts) play each other tonight, and if Milan beats Genoa at home wednesday, they will be either tied or 1 point short of 4th place. a few veteran leaders added to this young group and you have a very good Serie A team

wouldnt know about that as i very rarely watched them last year. but i imagine like Leo and the rest of them last year, they will get better as season progresses. plus they are without Caldara so far, and without Conti for over a year now

Milan have announced the diagnosis for defender Mattia Caldara, who has a lesion of the Achilles tendon and muscle-tendon junction.
The former Atalanta full-back is expected to be out for at least three months.
A statement from the club confirmed the full diagnosis of a partial lesion of the Achilles tendon in his right leg.
There is also a lesion of the muscle-tendon junction of the gastrocnemius muscle.
The player must remain with a cast on his right leg for three weeks, during which he will have further tests and specialist consultations.
