If this does happen, then get him here, partner him with Rugani, and throw him into the fire. The sooner the better, because if this is going to be the future Juve CB partnership, there is no time like the present.

It is the plan. Caldara is in the Serie A 2016/17 team of the season on WhoScored :agree:

We can also kiss goodbye to the CL this year(if we have any aspirations) with a move like that.

Very impulsive reactions here. Surprised it's coming from you. Pretty sure Rugani will take Bonucci's spot but Caldara on the other hand would be warming the bench for most of the season so it would be better for him to stay at Atalanta.

He won't be a starter if he came here. That's for sure.

TS mention Manolas.
that guy has nothing on our current defenders, and still would cost a fortune.

caldara is already at rugani's level, he's incredibly stable and talented. i wouldn't mind either him or rugani to start along chiellini. he might easily be our 3rd most played defender of the season, ahead of both barza and benatia.

He will warm the bench but its better he is backup for us and learns what he is going to learn next summer onwards now. And we NEED THE DEPTH. Chiellini, Benatia and Barzagli are 75% of our defence, and they all injury prone to various degrees. Even if Rugani has issues currently. So yeah we defenitely need to take back this kid.

It should be Chiellini - Rugani - Benatia - Caldara, in that order in terms of who gets minutes (until proven otherwise, Caldara may suprise everyone). Tho if he stays healthy Benatia might actually prove to be the most reliable choice.

I dont count Barzagli because he is basically retiring next summer and should only be depth.

They didn't spend that kind of money for him to be a bench player. If he comes here, he should start. If it means taking some lumps in the beginning of the season, then so be it. I'll take the short term setback for long term gain any day.

I've always been a major proponent of youth, and especially refreshing the back line. If it is going to happen, then it needs to happen soon. There is no point bringing in such an investment like that to have him ride the bench.

Allegri took a year to make Sandro starter despite Evra being sluggish for most of the season.

Caldara has to perform at an extraordinary level in the chances he gets and/or injuries should happen to all of our experienced CB's if he is to get starter level minutes.

Otherwise he'll be bench warming most of the year like Rugani.
