Thats when there was passion for the sport and ambition. Now they're all employees working for pay checks
These two things are not mutually exclusive. Even outside of football, not all employees optimize for money. Some optimize for work-life balance, flexibility or learning new skills. Some really enjoy the craft they're in or really buy into the company's mission. Doesnt mean money doesn't matter or that they'd be okay being underpaid.

None of the players above played for free either. Many of them optimized for legacy over money but they still made millions nevertheless.

Not to mention that most clubs dump players as soon as they don't need them. Expecting players to play for "the sport" without any such expectation of the clubs (ie. the Agnellis and Glazers types) is not fair.

They are not exclusive, i didn't mean so. But players nowadays are massively overpaid, theres less incentive to work hard and leave a legacy. Maybe modern players have shit values as well. Either or both

We do jack shit on Serie A with Werner. If we were to get a striker, we should get a target type, like an old school number 9 instead of bundesliga 4-3 football with the open space type of a striker that Werner is.

I always thought MDL being the future, even the future captain but if we get something near 100m we could invest that to different type of future.
