Alessandro Matri has encouraged his Bianconeri team-mates to make one final push in order to cross the finishing line in style. The striker, who recently put pen to paper on a long-term deal, chose to reflect on the team’s rapid upturn in fortunes while guesting on Juventus Channel’s ‘Filo Diretto’.
The 27-year-old began: “At the start of the season it would have been difficult to imagine being top of the league with six games remaining and Coppa Italia finalists. As the months have gone by, we’ve become aware of our strength and desire to be where we are. We’re currently at the decisive moment, we mustn’t give up now, we want to aim to reach both targets and fulfil our dream.”
Before moving on to consider Sunday’s crunch Serie A encounter with Roma, Matri reserved a special thought for Piermario Morosini.
“I didn’t know Morosini personally, but his death deeply saddened me. His story has taught us all not to complain about insignificant things, but to enjoy life as it comes.
“The Roma game will be an open affair because both teams are fighting for an important target. We need to do well to make the most of the chances that come our way and play with maximum concentration, urged on by the great support our fans will certainly provide.”
The frontman, this season’s top scorer with ten goals, ended the interview by commenting on his most important strike of the season.
“Definitely the one against Milan at the San Siro, I’d put that on the same level as my first goal in Serie A and my first strike for the national side.”
