Alessandro Matri capped off a fine start to the year by netting both goals in the Bianconeri’s 2-1 win over Udinese. The striker put Juventus in front shortly before half-time, reacting quickest to Handanovic’s stop to prod the ball over the line. And he did more of the same after the break, holding off the attentions of his marker to tuck a low left-footed shot inside the far post.
The two strikes saw the former Cagliari frontman maintain his good form in 2012. The 27-year-old has scored three goals from four starting appearances, and had a significant hand in Juve’s third in the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Roma.
And Matri has not just saved his explosive start for Juventus. 12 of his 76 professional championship career goals have come in the first month of the calendar year.
