Alessandro Matri has reiterated his desire to fire the Bianconeri to victory against Genoa. The 27-year-old has already broken the ten-goal barrier this season and is looking to add to his tally at the Luigi Ferraris. With the clock ticking down towards Juve’s second of three consecutive away games, the striker analysed the upcoming encounter in an exclusive interview with Sky.

Matri began: “There’s a bit of regret concerning the last few draws, but we’re also aware that we’ve given our all. It remains a very positive season. We’re two points off Milan and the championship is more open than it’s ever been. We’ll always have the dream of winning the Scudetto and we’ll try and keep that dream alive right until the end of the season.”

These draws have seen the critics point their fingers at the attack, yet the former Cagliari frontman believes the strikers have a vital role to play in enabling the team to create chances.

“We work all week to get ourselves ready,” he added. “It’s not nice to hear criticism, but these things also spur us on. Many goals scored by the midfielders are down to the movements or systems involving the strikers who open up the play and enable them to break forward, so the credit goes to everyone. In the last few games, the manager has alternated the strikeforce. He makes his choices on what he sees during the week but also the team we’re up against. I scored two in the home fixture against Genoa and I hope I’m the ideal option for the encounter...”

While Conte will select the starting line-up, the manager will not be on the bench to guide his men during the 90 minutes in Genova.

Matri concluded: “To tell the truth we were all surprised by the fact that he was sent to the stands in Bologna. It didn’t seem like he’d protested at all. However, Sunday’s performance depends on what’s been done during the week and Conte has worked with us on the training ground.”
