I'm saying that we play deep because we can't get out, not because we want to play deep and defensive all the time. This is the reason why I go on about playing 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 because at least Di Sciglio and Pellegrini can roam forward and they both hug the wings and can cross reasonably well. When Bernardeschi returns then a flat 4-4-2 with him and Cuadrado the other side will allow us to move forward more effectively.
True we play deep because we can't get out because our players are not the greatest at retaining the ball.

But can we start pressing sooner when we don't have the ball? Sure we can and need to do so at top of the 1/3 instead of our 18 line. Why force yourself in a corner and under pressure all the time? why hold on to the ball so deep? team needs to be set up to work better finding open spaces and for one touch passes outlets at the 1/3rd not have them pass with having the opponent whole team in your box right in front of szczesny.
With plan and setup If you win the ball at 1/3rd and you try to find your target man, the opponent has no choice to be wary and not press forward so freely..and if you lose the ball at 1/3rd then at least it's not one meter from the goal..plus with our better than average CBs need to hold the line instead of backpedal all the time and allow opponent to start runs..
for CL maybe our CBs are slow but not for serie A shit teams who are as good as our bench.
Have Loca take more chances, let's try more vertical passess so one of those balls breaks through.
The problem here is Allegris mentality, it's not even "park the bus" defensive it's "shoot yourself in the foot" stupid.
