because we dont have a LW otherwise. the best i can think of is:

RM Sami Pjanic Matuidi
Dybala Mandzu
/
RM Khedira Pjanic Matuidi Mandzu
Dybala

RM being either of Costa, Cuads and Berna

but Allegri already said Dybala cant play striker for a top club (like hed be any worse than Higgy :, so that might not happen

The addition of Matuidi has made a big difference. Wingers have less defensive responsibility in a 433 than a 442, that's just a fact.

Mandzukic was good going forward in this game, but it's largely redundant to play him and Higuain together.

Why not play a wingerless formation then? You had big succes with it in 2014-15 season. I know youre midfield back then was better without a doubt, but still.

We played that front line against Genoa in the Copa Italia, and we were actually entertaining going forward.

because you need width even without wingers. 14/15 we had Licht/Evra, which wasnt great by any means, but Pogba, Marchisio, Tevez and Morata (and Pereyra, when he played) did a great job at providing width wen we (counter)attack. we also had the midfield to do a massive defensive work, despite Pirlo being in the centre of it, with Marchisio and Pogba helping out wide and Vidal covering Pirlo, keeping Allegris favorite 442 shape defensively. right now, we might have better offensive fullbacks in AS and MDS, but we dont have the midfield simply. Matuidi is fine defending wide, Khedira tho? and assuming he can, whos covering the centre with Pjanic, Berna/Dybala? the team is simply not built for it, a 3421 is the only other thing we might be able to pull off, other than the 442/433/4231 because:
