Allegri explains Juve switch

Massimiliano Allegri explained his change of tactics as Juventus were held 0-0 by Fiorentina.

After winning all six competitive games in November, Allegri shelved the four-man defence for a return to the 3-5-2.

“With Lichtsteiner out and Padoin tending to do better at left-back, I tried to provide more protection against Cuadrado’s pace and then switch back in the second half,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Chiellini and Ogbonna were booked, so I tried to maintain the system to the end. Fiorentina contrasted us well and we had three chances that we should’ve taken better, as in these tight games the final ball should not be misplaced.

“In the first half we were caught out on the break from a Vidal misplaced pass, which is unusual, as we made more mistakes than usual tonight.”

Kingsley Coman had his second Serie A start, the first alongside Fernando Llorente.

“Coman had a good game and is particularly dangerous on the one-on-one. Llorente worked well, it was not easy and we didn’t develop our football as well, but when both teams mirror each other in tactics it inevitably comes down to individual duels.

“I chose Llorente because in physical terms he holds the ball up well and did that a lot in the first half. Coman attacks the space, so having two players doing that was risky and could’ve left us without reference points in attack.

“I could’ve introduced Morata for Pereyra, but I had two centre-backs booked and it was too much of a risk.”

Juventus also rotated ahead of Tuesday’s decisive Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

“We have excellent sensations. It’s an important match, we must try to win with two clear goals, as our objective is to qualify and hopefully even top the group.”

A draw would be enough to send the Bianconeri through to the knockouts.

3-5-2 never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever again. Ever.
What's the point in 3-5-2 if you're gonna play Ogbonna as a RW? I was utterly disgusted with the way we played tonight. It won't be hard to forget this game. Hope this is the last time we're seeing 3-5-2 here. I understand that we cannot win every game, but we should be able to create more during the course of 90 minutes.

We had absolutely no interest in winning this game, the definition of playing it safe. With this attitude we wouldn't have created anything in a 4-2-4, we would've conceded a few though.

He is right about everything.

Imagine if he uses it against Atletico :D
Actually we were good with 3-5-2 against Atletico, they tend to score 2+ goals if you use offensive tactics ( RM, Barcelona as examples). The battle was fought in midfield and we were visitors away from home and could have and should have ended 0-0. I don't mind 3-5-2 against Atl. I will however mind if we go for the draw from the start.

i still think we look vulnerable in a 3-5-2. We managed to contain Atletico in Spain, but we didnt exactly create much to score. If we walked away with a draw it would have been the best possible result. but this time around we need score and aim for the win. if anything i can see him play vidal, pirlo, pogba and marchisio with tevez and llorente upfront. Vidal in that advanced role in midfield that doesnt him suit him best. But i think we will be more balanced and have better opportunities of creating something.

I think he is using vidal in that role simply because he has a lot of stamina and always runs to help at the back in defense.
