Other than that, what realistic alternatives were there? None. Like Marotta said, we had to act fast, and he's the best we could possibly get.

Although I would have loved to see Deschamps here, the statement that was made that they had to act quickly, in all honesty, would have prevented Deschamps or any other employed coach from being lured away from their respective positions.


They needed to hire someone, and quickly, to stop the bleeding. The longer the uncertainty, the greater the discord, the less time you have to plan your squad and your market strategy.


If Deschamps were without a job, then hell yes, in a heartbeat. But I can only imagine how long the negotiations would have taken for him to be released from his contract.
