A decline would be rather typical. Personally I think we should start selling some of our players, even those who have performed in order to bring in hunger. I also can't stand when, even people who call themselves professionals, talk about the inevitability of cycles. I get that it takes new players time to settle in, but that's why that entire squad/backbone shouldn't be made up of new players. Cycles are for morons who don't continually renew their squads until it's too late. You hear Milan and Inter talking a lot about cycles these days.
To some way, I really think cycles happen, in the form of bad seasons in which ur previously good team stop winning. But to the point of what happening woth milan and inter, not. Thats pure stupidity indeed

He did very well, excellent for some, but by the things that Conte is not responsible for, or better to stay he shouldn't take merits, is that he won Scudetto with mediocre squad, on par with current Milan's or Inter's. And since you believe we had a team good enough to fight for 2nd/3rd spot I think you'd agree with that assessment.
I think its on par with Milan or Inter's squad yes. I'd say inter's current squad is actually better. They have a very good squad.

And no one on this forum thought we could finish first or second. We all hoped for a top 3 finish and considered that an achievement given the squad.

Not true, they dropped points before and after that game. We won that Scudetto on our own merits. The one thing that definitely went against Milan was injuries. Other than that, we were easily a better team (besides their superstar players in Ibra and Silva) and played the best football that season as well (esp when using the 4-3-3)
As I said ,maybe theirs defeat at home against Fiorentina decided the title.Yes they lose points before and after that game. We used 4-3-3 mainly at the begining of the season. With Estigaribia(who had a great season)Giacherini etc. we had hardly a better team.We have many new players and a new coach. We also have a zillion of draws that season. That's why I think that with all possible credit to Conte who make a miracle with the players on his disposal that title of ours was mainly Allegri's fault.Maybe because he was under direct and strict control about his decisions(as almost every coach of Milan lately) under Galliani,I don't know, but I think that he contribute a lot to their losing the title.

They also overspent and in the wrong areas.

Allegri definitely had the much superior squad. He didnt have to rejuvenate anyone or discover the hidden talent of any future stars. He also came off the back of a campaign where he already won the league and so his team was gelled and stable. He had a strong 1st 11 and some depth too. His team was good both in Europe and in Italy.

Conte had to work with freebies that nobody wanted and vidal in a team without confidence, and without any winning experience. There was no mega-spending no expectation by the fans nothing. We were already accustomed to failure and were hoping that we could get a sniff at CL football. Enter Conte and Pirlo starts suddenly playing at his best and the whole team goes on a full season undefeated. The very next season we retain the title and have a very impressive CL campaign. This is nothing short of a miracle. And if anyone here want to go back and check the opinions of the same members who are hating now 2-3 years ago on the forum he'd see how much their memory is damaged. If I wasnt lazy id have looked up the bookies' odds from back then of us finishing 3rd let alone us finishing 1st undefeated. The butthurt started in Galatasaray and was magnified when he left.

Much the superior squad? It's the same squad plus a couple of players. Morata adds what Llorente has lost, Pogba only partially fills in for the significant decline in Vidal, and add long term injuries to Barzagli (best defender in the league) and Asamoah (beast). Even one of the new players (Romulo) has been injured the whole time.

From Conte's first year to Allegri's first year, I don't think there's any doubt about the claim of Allegri having the superior squad, at least that's how I read Hist's post.

Edit: And I read it wrong. Thought he compared Conte's Juve to Allegri's, but it seems to be Conte's first year at Juve with Allegri's last year at Milan.

allgeri's first year vs conte's first year?

everyone has the choice.
for me allegri's first year.

reason : it is more difficult to defend the title for the 4th than get it for the 1st time.
especially when you are not the coach who get three previous scudetto.
also lost barzagli.
also chielini, pirlo, vidal declined
and have unexperienced in serie like morata and coman.
also play in CL.

But Allegri hasn't won any title yet.
