I dunno, I don't think 3-5-2 was the only reason why we failed to beat Olympiakos away and Atletico at home - but it didn't help. There was a few factors, but our play had become stale and predictable under that formation and its clear we were struggling in Europe using it.
Olympiacos away was 90% on our finishing though. That's relatively independent of the formation used.

so if we don´t get the points we need against malmö and atletico at home using 43x it will still be the fault of 352? ^^
i agree that we shouldn´t have lost in greece but we also shouldn´t have lost the h2h against olympiacos by conceding twice at home...

i´m convinced we will qualify, though.
Our problems in europe has always been more nerves than anything else ever since the bayern match. We usually dominated and created chances but were wasteful and then gifted the opposition free goals via brain farts in defense. We were dominant against olympiakos at home and nords and even madrid playing a 4-3-3 but brain farts from Isla against the turks and Caceras amongst others in madrid cost us the points during very good performances by the team. This didnt change against olympiakos and we were very close to not getting the 3 points out of this nervousness. If conte failed in motivating the team in one aspect it was in bringing back the squad's confidence after the Bayern matches. Our winning mentality in europe that was there against chelsea, shakhtar and celtic was obliterated after being schooled by the bloody germans. Its as if the team's character was irrevocably broken that day. I think that if we had won against madrid the confidence would have been back but the manner of our loss (brain farts) was very disheartening it was as of no matter what we do against a top team we lose.

It is true however that we were more predictable with the 3-5-2 as we rarely changed how we do things over the last 2 year especially and coaches must have taken note of that and prepared their teams accordingly. Most teams especially in Italy could not stop us despite that but our shaky nerves in the CL since the bayern schooling mediated whatever quality advantage we had over our european opposition. Players start to miss scoring chances that they would have easily bagged in Serie A and defenders commit errors that they would very rarely do in Serie A and that was still apparent against the greeks.

The new formation is unpredictable as its still new and if it works well for us then we have the advantage of being unpredictable until the formation becomes a little more old and studied by the opposition. We have two working formations now and that is certainly an advantage that we didnt have before. The question is whether our new found enthusiasm can carry onto europe or not. I certainly hope we break this CL curse so that we can go back to delivering complete nerve free performances like we did against chelsea and celtic as if we were playing one of the better serie A teams.

Max Allegri said Paul Pogba “can become the strongest midfielder in the world” after Juventus crushed Lazio 3-0.

“Pogba had a great game, but he has the quality to do even better and become the strongest midfielder in the world,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“He moved with the right tempo in attack and defence. It was his best performance of the season so far.”

The Bianconeri have been dominant since moving to a Christmas Tree formation, scrapping Antonio Conte’s three-man defence.

“The team did well, defended when necessary and I think we played fairly well with some good passing moves. We struggled a little in the first half and misplaced a few too many passes, but sorted that out.

“The lads worked hard and Mattiello nearly scored when coming off the bench. It was important to get a win in such a difficult arena against a tough Lazio side, especially after Roma had won earlier today.

“Andrea Pirlo hadn’t trained with the team for 10 days, but he had a great game and when we have an extra man between midfield and defence it’s normal he has more space and protection to pass the ball.

“Pereyra has great technique, but he also goes straight for the goal. He runs hard and brings real intensity to the team, so I think that was his best performance of the season. He does need to improve his finishing, as a player like him needs to score at least six or seven goals per campaign.

The team works together and the more the forwards do, the easier it is for the defenders. You have to keep the ball as far away from your own box as possible and you do that by attacking.

I thought our worst performances were against Empoli, Genoa and Olympiacos. Whether playing with three at the back or four, we always moved the ball around well. With an extra man in attack you need to work harder, but it’s worth it to have more options going forward.

“It might’ve seemed easy against Parma, but that was not the case, as they were fresh from a win over Inter. We need to work on keeping tight, as the more we stay tight, the less we need to run.”
Damn, I'm beginning to like him. He sees things he should and it always pissed me off when we played shitty football under Conte he always went on claiming we played great football. It's like he didn't see any flaws in our game while in reality we couldn't string 4 passes sometimes. Still Conte delivered results and was a guarantee of stable performance level and I wasn't happy with his departure, especially considering who was available at the time. Luckily Allegri woke up about time because I was afraid he'd take the road Conte chose: stick to the plan and don't experiment.

I don't miss Conte at all.
Tactically speaking, i dont miss him, not even a little.

In fact i wish the 352 never happened.

We would have cruised serie A with any more offensive formation and the right attitude.

So much time lost in europe. What a fukin shame

Honestly, he's making Conte look like not such a great tactician. Some of those eventual defects in our set-up that Conte steadfastly persisted with, Allegri is finding solutions to.

However, I think our lack of width with this formation is something team could take advantage of. We'll see.
