I think it was an instance of over confidence from Max. He has been winning so long and so hard in Italy that he thought he could rest players for the Coppa final, that the team could just turn up and win. It was a mistake, we aren't that good this season. We aren't just picking up results by turning up like in the past.

Unsurprisingly, once his grace Euromaxx recognized this we put on the right players and stomped Bologna into submission.

I was never worried that we wouldnt win, but come on Max that casual approach isn't working these days. We aren't walking into this scudetto.

I think his only mistake is I’m hoping that the second level guys can step it up and it seems not only that they can not but that they throw off the other guys as well

I think the attitude of the players is the worst thing. You can see Allegri prowling around looking agitated and it's when our players go into a coma-like state.

My personal opinion is that it gets harder every year to motivate these players to continually get results and win this title. It might end up as 7 scudetti in a row but it's simply not a case of turning up and just winning, Napoli have been there all season and we've had to really dig in. We're talking about maybe going to the last game two away and we're already on 91 points.

The drop off after the CL exit was noticeable but we can't build our season around such a random competition. He's got to the point where he has to give players more of a kick up the ass than he did in the early days and that could be the other contributing factor to some of them looking mentally fatigued. But physically it's also a long season and we are not exactly a young team.

:agree:

In some ways I feel sorry for Allegri, in that the attitude from our players is clearly an issue and he does appear to be doing everything to get them to wake up.

But on the other hand, those tactics in the first half we awful. We basically had 3 players on the same position on the left and Khedira/Cuadrado in the same place on the right. Our plan seemed to consist solely on putting aimless crosses to Higuain and nothing through the middle. Marchisio was basically our only midfielder in the middle and completely overrun and we had a LB at LW when we have Berna/Costa on the bench. To his credit he changed it as soon as he could, but I'm not a fan of these experimental/hybrid formations.

Lack of motivation is big deal. Fact is he will get hungry players next year: Spina, Caldara, Can, Pjaca... But will that be enough for the 8th Scudetto?

We need a world-class player in midfield and we can do without Higuain. That could even bring in a CL.
