I see no pattern because patterns is for people with issues.
You just said that Elkann said that we "would also follow the pattern of not investing at the defense and make more a la Amauri acquisitions" Now you are saying that he didn't say that, you just saw the pattern! Great, another reason to believe that you come up with stuff based on nothing.
Now my question is, do you want us to buy defenders just for the sake of buying defenders or do you want us to buy defenders that fit the profiles that we need and are up to the task?
But i only mentioned Elkann on th eCassano argument, when did i claimed that he said that??
Thats our pattern, but why would he declare that on public when its so obvious??
I just want us to strengthen our defense, as we did with the rest of our team!
I cant accept that we have the funds to buy luxury and expensive subs for the forward line and midfield and we cant buy a proper starter in the midfield.
Poulsen for ex was a great mistake, we should have trusted on Marchisio for depth and use that money to buy a defender.
And the pattern
First season in Serie A we bought:
- Andrade - Grygera - Salihamidzic - Marchionni - Almiron - Tiago - Iaquinta
Second season in Serie A we bought:
- Amauri - Poulsen - Knezevic and brought back De Ceglie - Marchisio - Giovinco
Third season in Serie A we bought (SO FUCKING FAR)
- Cannavaro - Diego - Melo
Now let's break down this fucking pattern and see:
1st season: 3 defenders, 3 midfielders, 1 forward
2nd season: 2 defenders, 2 midfielders, 1 forward
3rd season: 1 defender, 2 midfielders and WE DID NOT BUY CASSANO
Pattern my ass! Go pattern on someone else, someone who forgets what you first said by the moment he reaches 20% in through your post.
As you can see from the player you mentioned, the percentage of the funds invested on defenders is minimal!!
Unless of course you call the acquisition of Knezevic as equal to the acquisition of Poulsen. We should bring a Poulsen valuable defender to stregthen the pathetic defense and a Knezevic-valued depth player for the midfield, in order to keep the balance.
Since our midfield was already somewhat competitive and also got Marchsisio and Giovinco. But our defense was mediocre in both depth players and starters!!

When Gigli said titles are not our priority?
When we got back in serie A. Of course he masked that, saying that our first priority is not to win titles right away, but to build an attractive to watch team, who will be able to compete for titles later on.
Now, the pressure from the fans force him to say, that we want to challenge for titles, but it is only for "internal consumption".
Our priorities havent changed, it is still clear that we are ready to sacrifice everything for the spectacle. Thas why it was imperative to buy, Iaquinta, Amauri, Diego and use an offensive formation, instead of buying just one defender-starter... who would help us capitalize...
I agree that we haven't improved our defence as we should but I don't see a pattern.
And I ask you the same question, would you like us to spend on a defender just for the sake of buying a defender or do you want us to invest in that department for something up to the standard?
On that point i agree, i wouldnt want to see us spending cash just for the sake of it. We either buy a proper defender, or save it the money and invest it when we raise enough money for him later.
If this is the reason we will get no defenders this year, then i am not complaining.
The pattern I mean is a pattern of not prioritizing our defence, for the 3rd year running, it doesnt need to be a conspiracy theory, but its not a coincidence we go for free transfers of mediocre players to add to our defence. It just signals we dont prioritize to invest in our defence.
And what kind of question is that? Rather obvious answer, I prefer quality over quantity, thats EXACTLY I havent liked our way to add to the defence, we just sign quantity with not much regard for quality at all.
We accept this too much every summer, and gloss it over. So in this regard, IMO Cronios stubborness fits and is right in pointing out/reminding. Even if I dont agree with the ways he exaggerates and makes everything out to be somekind of sinister conspiracy plot by the board.
Osman and me had this discussion last year, when i already noticed the pattern and pointed it out back then.
Although we disagreed about this in the past, he has now seen the light, simply by accepting the facts in front of him!!
What might have seen as an assumption from me last year, is not the same anymore. And as the years go by, it become more obvious!
To his credit, Osman realized that alone, showing an open mind and objectivity!
A policy which is being praised by many especially in the current financial times. Now Cronios would say that Iaquinta and Amauri were not needed and we should have bought Vidic and Sergio Ramos instead but I know what would Azzurri reply to such a thing. I would use the same reply.
No "not needed", but less needed than some proper defenders.
Just compare our forward to our CB twin and you will see the great gap of quality.
In both starters and subs. In DP and Treze will already had a world class twin of forwards, but we had crap in defense both CB and wing-backs.
Great depth players are always welcomed, but not in the expense of starters!
Thats what i have been saying all these years. Just make a full squad of competitive players and then we can add all the depth we want.
Iaquinta is better and more expensive than Legro, Grygera and Molinaro.
And he was bough as a subber.
Poulsen was better than them too and he was bought as a subber too, why???
Why dont we invest that sum we spend for sums on the defense and use cheap/free/youngsters for depth in the places that are already covered!
We can't overspend in all areas of the team each year. If we don't have a strong offense and strong midfield then we would struggle to score goals in a notorious tough league for scoring opportunities. Now, we have a worldclass attack and midfield, for that I will thank the board. A worldclass goalie and again I will thank the board for keeping him here. We have a decent young crop of defenders in Bamba, ariaudo and de ceglie. Maybe they don't want to spend money there as they know we have some potentially great players coming thru the ranks.
If we didn't have iaquinta/amauri we would be relying on two aging strikers to carry the team. A starting lineup consisting of players like buffon, chiellini, canna, melo, marchisio, sissoko, diego, trezeguet, del piero with backups in amauri, iaquinta, camoranesi, zebina, de ceglie, giovinco, zanetti, tiago and poulsen and knowing how many great primaveras we have coming up soon in yago, daud, esposito, bamba, and immobile I would say we have a team 98 percent of clubs would die for. We have so many great players cronios, I don't understand how you can still be so impatient and impractical in your reasoning without looking at what we have and what we will be having with our primavera.
Our club is on the right track in pretty much every area. New team, coach and stadium.
There is a shortage of defenders and teams that have good ones will be more reluctant to sell and at a fair price. I'd like to know who is available thay is in our budget that would make an immediate impact that you think we should get.
We cant and thats why we must respect our priorities and stop spending money left and right!!
For the cash we spend all those years we could have done much much better!!
There is a reason why Secco cant sell anything for more than 2.5 mil.
We were full of crap. This year we made a fine turn on acquiring quality over quantity and for that i am very very pleased and i consider it a major step forward.
But i see no reason, why we are still failing to fix our greatest problem, the defense! Why are we keep trusting mediocre players for starters to our defense, like Grygera/crippled Zebi, Legro-finished Canna and hopeless Molinaro.
And we cant trust Marchisio enough, not to invest 25mil on Melo??
the problem is not with the players we got, but how and when we got them.
We paid little attention to the balance of our team and our current issues.
We bought opportunity targets that didnt get as momentary gains and they were not optimal strategical choices. We were forced to make far too many side steps and back steps and we are still help hostage of the players we never needed,
but we bought just for the shake of it...
We cannot afford to waste money, we should already be able to field a competitive team in e every line, but we are not!
