Full name Martín Gastón Demichelis
Date of birth 20 December 1980 (age 29)
Place of birth Justiniano Posse, Argentina
Height 1.84 m (6 ft 1⁄2 in)
Playing position Centre Back, Defensive Midfielder

Martín Gastón Demichelis (born 20 December 1980 in Justiniano Posse, Córdoba) is an Argentine footballer who plays as a centre back for Bayern Munich. He was also a defensive midfielder before Ottmar Hitzfeld chose to employ his defensive prowess more as a center back. His skills as a midfielder make him a ball-player from the back, often bringing the ball forward and showing good comfortable ball possession.

Club career

River Plate

Demichelis started playing professionally in 1998 at Buenos Aires based club River Plate, but he did not manage to find himself a spot in the starting line-up until 2001. He had some good performances at River Plate, which resulted in a transfer to Bayern Munich in 2003.

Bayern Munich

Demichelis' first season with Bayern Munich was not very positive, because he suffered a number of minor injuries, but under the command of coach Felix Magath, he found a place in the team's starting line-up. Martín has also played a vital role for Bayern in winning their three doubles in 2005, 2006 and 2010.
After being dropped from the starting lineup against Wolfsburg in the opening game of the 2010–11 Bundesliga, he requested that Louis van Gaal omit him from the squad altogether, which van Gaal did. Demichelis thereafter voiced to the press that it would be probable that he and the club went separate ways.

International career

On 11 September 2007, he scored his first international goal for Argentina in a friendly match against Australia, in which his header proved to be the winning scoreline 1–0. On 22 June 2010, he scored the first goal of the match for Argentina against Greece in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

His agent has confirmed that we're interested.

Chelsea, Sevilla and Barcelona are also interested. Fiorentina, Naples and Roma are interested as well but he said they can't afford him.

Bayern does not want to give him on loan.

For us? Solid enough and can cover couple of positions. For a decent price, I'd sign him.

This guy is the worst defender for Bayern and Argentina. We should only sign him if he's the 4th choice CB.

He's not the worst, nobody matches Van Buyten on shittyness, but he's quite poor indeed.

    No thanks to him.

Choosing between Kyrgiakos and Demichelis is just impossible, they're both poor and not even an upgrade on Legro.

For Bayerns van Buyten mostly plays good, for Belgium, well, mostly it is the opposite.

With regard to Demischelis, if he is cheap and if he is ok with being a backup, then fine.

How can you call a defender who makes mistakes as often as he does 'solid'? Solid to me is an unspectacular player who rarely makes a mistake. That doesn't describe Demichelis.

Totally mistake prone, the amount of silly fouls due to lack of concentration or any form of pace ive seen him doing is in big numbers. :sergio: No thanks.

    as i said earlier

Demicheles:wallbang: on his game he can be very good but he lacks the concentration levels to be a truly top class defender,he has lackadaisical moments in just about every game where he sells a pass short, gets caught dawdling with the ball at his feet,or completely loses his man. i would pass on this one

He's leaving Bayern for refusing to be a bench warmer while that's exactly what we're looking for, a backup CB who unless one of our regular players gets injured/suspended won't get 1st team action.

I'd take Barza over him, he'll come cheaper (even a loan move would be accepted by Wolfsburg) and he'll earn much less wages.
