Inter-Juventus fight for Verratti

By Football Italia staff

Inter and Juventus did battle on the transfer market yesterday in their bid to sign Marco Verratti from Pescara.

Reports today suggest that the Nerazzurri were on the verge of landing the Under-21 international on Tuesday with the help of Genoa.

Inter and the Rossoblu had discussed the possibility of buying a half share each in the player, but allowing him to remain on loan at Pescara in 2012-13.

A deal with Pescara was practically done – until Juventus directors were made aware of the developing situation.

It is claimed that director general Beppe Marotta, who has made no secret of his attempts to sign the midfielder, rang Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi.

It is alleged that Marotta made it clear that future transfer deals between Genoa and the Old Lady may be jeopardised should the Grifone help Inter net the playmaker.

Juventus have offered Pescara €3.5m for a 50 per cent share in the youngster’s contract, as well a co-ownership agreement for Juve midfielder Manuel Giandonato.
