a scapegoat is someone who you lay the blame on, for something negative, that is generally not at all their fault, or solely their fault...So, what the hell are you talking about???

Motta WAS at fault, and at times solely responsible for some of our awful results last season. he is NO scapegoat...and this is why i have been asking why you folks call him an escape goat.

So...by calling him a scapegoat, you are saying that he had zero or very little blame for our awful season, and the rest of the team or the fans are unfairly using him as a scapegoat (i.e. he is taking the blame for others guilty of far worse wrongdoing). If that is the case, you are ruined, my friend. OR...your english is far from ideal. Its one of the two.

No, I still do not understand why anyone of right mind, who had watched juve last season, and seen Motta hugely our most consistently awful player on the field, and then refer to him as a scapegoat. Its nonsense. By labelling him as a scapegoat, he must be a scapegoat FOR something...in this case, our abject failure last term (I assume). If Motta is a scapegoat, he is been used by some others, unfairly, to take the weight of blame for our abject failure last term. By calling him a scapegoat, you are suggesting he played no part in our failure, or at best, a very minor part far less heavy than the others in the team around him...

Hopefully you will understand the phrase now??? Its someone taking the blame in place of others.

I guess in American English it would be near to a patsy???
