Claudio Marchisio remains hopeful on Juventus’ prospects until the end of the season. The dynamic midfielder, who this season has enjoyed his best goalscoring return to date, believes that the Bianconeri have enough determination to finish the current campaign on a high. The 26-year-old also maintains his conviction in the national side and thinks the Azzurri are capable of putting on a good show in this summer’s European Championships. *

“I’m optimistic regarding Juventus and the national side,” the midfielder told Sky. “Both have great groups of players. Italy have done well over the last two years and that’s why I’m confident ahead of the European Championships. As far as Juve are concerned, nobody here expected a championship season like the one we’re currently enjoying. We’ve made giant strides thanks to our dedication.”

Marchisio today returned to training after featuring in Italy’s 1-0 reverse at the hands of the United States. And, ever the consummate professional, he is already looking ahead to the next challenge.

“Over the past few days, we’ve just thought about the friendly against the United States,” Claudio continued. “Important games like last Saturday’s have people talking for days, both before and after. Now it’s behind us and we just want to think about the future, which is the encounter against Chievo. We know that it won’t be easy, we’ll be up against a side that doesn’t change regardless of whether they’re playing home or away. They defend well and know how to break using their quick strikers. Pellissier won’t be involved but the possible dangers are still present.”

The interview ended with a thought on the Bianconeri’s top of the table tussle with Milan, in particular the drive and spirit shown by Conte’s men to grind out a point at the San Siro.

“In Milan we never gave up,” he concluded. “We need to continue to do this in the championship in order not to ruin all the good work done so far. We have confidence in ourselves and we know we’re able to fight until the end on two fronts. Milan still have something more than us, but up until now we’ve managed to overcome that on the pitch through the group ethic.”
