Marchionni begins Juve career
Friday 9 June, 2006
Marco Marchionni was today presented as a Juventus player and expressed his joy at this move into the big time.
“It is a source of great satisfaction for me to be a part of a club with such a glorious history. Right from the start, I was amazed by how organised Juve are,” said the Bosman signing.
Marchionni’s career really took off at Empoli in 1998-99 and he moved to Parma in 2001, an experience split by a brief spell at Piacenza, but a serious injury kept him out of action for almost a year.
He rediscovered his form at Parma this term, scoring four goals and providing countless assists, which earned him an Azzurri recall. The winger was one of Marcello Lippi’s reserves for the 2006 World Cup squad.
“I am very happy with the way this season has gone,” Marchionni told the Bianconeri website. “I managed to avoid relegation, was in the Italy side and am now a Juventus player.”
The midfielder, who will turn 26 next month, underwent a medical in Turin this afternoon and put pen to paper on a contract, thought to be a five-year deal.
