Napoli legend Diego Maradona is set to make a playing comeback at the age of 45.
The World Cup winner has gotten back into fine shape in recent months and is set to discuss terms with Argentine Fourth Division side Excursionistas according to the BBC.
Maradona revealed in a recent TV interview that he was keen to start playing again. “I'd like to play in a club of Primera C or D, because there's not too much pressure,” said the midfielder who helped Napoli to two Scudetti and the UEFA Cup in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Now the President of Primera C side Excusionistas, Armando Mainoli, has offered Maradona the chance to return to playing. "When we watched the repetition of that interview some days ago, we had the idea immediately. We want to include Maradona in the official squad," he said. "We know there is some time yet left to do it and we'd be totally proud of seeing Diego wearing our shirt."
Maradona hasn’t played in a professional match since he appeared for Boca Juniors against River Plate in October 1997, although he has recently made several appearances for a Boca Juniors veteran team.
