Why would I be lying? Now really. Why?

What can I gain from saying that Lemon is the D and that he must be protected by being jailed.
I get the Gs not following me on this. But I really can't understand the Cs. It's one thing not to trust me due to my reputation, but this time everything is in front of you and you can make your own conclusions.

Lemon investigated me and told me about it. Now I only ask the jailer to protect him from being whacked. Think. If I am a G, what do I gain from this? I only provoke the real D to blaze me or Lemon tomorrow. If I'm a G, I have nothing to gain from Lemon being jailed, and I can lose a lot because both me and Lemon will be dead.
