Well you changed it mid-game, it's different for a G because you can then see if someone is PM'ing, a very G thing indeed. I'm sure you get it.

Because if you're a G, you are likely to be sending a lot of personal messages to your fellow Gs (and people could see you were doing so if you weren't invisible). Gs have been caught that way in the past.
