I would agree with this if it wasn't for one thing. Klin was the one getting lynched the day Fred got whacked, and knowing Klin I'm sure his final wish was to get Fred killed. Also, Fred being a pretty likely whack target in general also speaks against him being unprotected. However, had the D been a more unknown player, there's no doubt in my mind that Ocelot should have protected himself.

I'm not sure about the rules but I think he can send his request before going to the jail and get the result after he's freed. Not sure though.

I don't think so. Once a person is in jail their abilities don't work. Just like BG can't protect anyone while being in jail.
