The two cases aren't comparable. Ranieri was taking the maximum from the team he had and he was 2nd when he was fired. Del Neri is pushing us down, he surely can't fix anything. The team will keep losing, the players will know that DN will be fired at the end of the season, they won't even listen to what he tells them. Melo might even beat him (which won't be too bad) and the atmosphere in the team will go to hell, with the players probably taking their anger on their colleagues.

No matter what DN said that we're not in a free fall, the fact is that we are and that with him at the helm we will lose the next 3 matches and everything will explode.

He would be ideal. But lets face it there is no way he would ever come here. He's more likely to manage Torino. A coach with an amazing reputation and track record is not going to jump on board a sinking ship with 12 hours to go of the transfer window.

Our realistic target is and always will be Lippi. Who I am sure would come back to manage his 2006 world champions for a 3rd time. And lets face it, if anyone can manage a crap team then it's Lippi. I'd like to see Lippi come in for DN and see what he can do with this lot, give him an 18 month contract, let him see it out WHATEVER happens and back him with money in the summer. Then when Lippi retires with the majority of our squad, get Deschamps back in to take over.....

I don't say we fire midseason. This club is caught in a death trap of quick fix mentality. Plan for changes in the spring with another low-budget version of Juve. Get someone in who can develop youth prospects. Get cheap, young, but hungry players. And forget about the CL until there's a time again when this club can perform like it belongs there.

Currently, it doesn't even belong in the Europa League.

But that won't change with current people we have runnig the club.
