Playing Marchisio left midfield was a perfectly logical thing to do considering the players available.

Obviously it's not something that should be done very often.
I agree
also I can't think of anyone else to stop Maicon, and the names of Pepe, Grygera and DC make me feel like a heavy loss

Not really. Since when is it proper to play someone out of position? Hell, you're supposedly a big fan of Cloughie, too.

I wouldn't have tried an experiment that has failed every time. That much is pretty obvious. It's funny how some around here consider Maicon to be the new Zidane.
So what would you have done?

Pepe was carrying a knock and Martinez isn't fully fit yet.

Playing Marchisio there was no-one's first choice, but don't criticise a choice that worked well, especially if you aren't even going to suggest an alternative.

And Maicon may not be Zidane, but he has been arguable the best attacking right back in the world in the last few years, and his attacking has been key to Inter's success.

Alessandro Altobelli asked Del Neri after the game if he put Marchisio on the left because he was scared of maicon. Del Neri replied "Scared? We're not scared of anyone, its only a matter of respect for the opponent"

You have to give credit where credit's due. He actually got us playing as a team out there and one can also feel the positive attitude we're having during these last matches.

He's impressing me so far.
