Official: Atalanta Sign Cigarini
Cigarini is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Italy, and has been described by some as the “new Andrea Pirlo”.
The 22-year-old had been certain to leave Parma following their relegation to Serie B, and a whole host of clubs around Europe have been interested in signing him, including Manchester United, Juventus and Spanish-outfits Atletico Madrid and Villarreal.
However it is Atalanta who have snapped him up, signing 50 per cent of Cigarini’s contract for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be around €5m.
Cigarini has signed a four-year contract with the Nerazzurri and will immediately transfer to the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia.
The midfielder is the second hot prospect that Parma have sold today, after fellow Italy Under-21 international Daniele Dessena joined Sampdoria, also on a co-ownership deal.
