Alonso is a deep-lying playmaker period and with him holding in midfield you have Sissoko who can cover for him and Gerrard who will essentially be given a free role in midfield. I really abhor Crouch and he would be sitting because from what I have seen he does not add much. Not exactly a 4-3-3, however it could easily become such a system.
