RAFA HOPING FOR A STRONG OFFICIAL

Rafael Benitez has called on referee Steve Bennett to be strong willed during Saturday's visit of Bolton Wanderers to Anfield after voicing his concerns at the visitors' style of play.

Bolton beat Liverpool 1-0 at the Reebok Stadium at the start of the season in August and it was a defeat that was hard to take for the Liverpool manager. Benitez said it was a real welcome to English football for him and the Spanish players.

There was also a controversial decision when Luis Garcia's debut goal was wrongly ruled out for off-side.

Benitez says Bolton have a somewhat unique style of play and can be very difficult to play against and is expecting a physical battle at Anfield on Saturday.

Benitez said: "They always play with the same system and have their way of playing football. I learned a lot about their style when we played them earlier this season and lost 1-0.

"I learned a lot about the new rules and the throw-ins when a player has both feet on the line or just one foot in the air to give them ability to throw it further.

"When they take free-kicks and corner kicks they use two players in front of the goalkeeper but they are not offside. When the centre forward catches your defender with two hands around them and then the defender tries to clear the ball, you have to be careful because it's then a free-kick against you.

"They played with different rules and I learned a lot. The only thing is you want the referee to see the same thing you see this time.

"We know how important a game this is for us. We need to win as we are four points behind Everton and we want to reduce the gap."

NANDO: IT'S VITAL THAT STEVIE STAYS

Fernando Morientes is keeping his fingers crossed that he is lining up in the same Liverpool team as Steven Gerrard next season.

The Spanish striker, who could make a surprising return from injury to face Bolton tomorrow, insists Liverpool need to keep their skipper at the club to ensure a greater chance of achieving success over the coming years.

Gerrard has stated he will consider his future at the end of the season, and Morientes has spelt out the importance of ending the campaign in style to help make his decision that much easier.

"It is so vital that he stays with us," he said. "We know that if we do well, he will stay as a Liverpool player and that is what we all want.

"Gerrard is the most important player in the Liverpool side. It is difficult to imagine a Liverpool without Gerrard.

"The next season is vitally important to us and we need Steven to be here. All of the players at Anfield want to do well, not just for themselves but because they know a successful Liverpool team will help ensure that Gerrard stays with the club. If we do well, he stays."

Morientes has also revealed the form of Gerrard is often the topic of conversation whenever he speaks with his former team-mates in Madrid.

"I speak a great deal with my old team-mates and the interest in how the Spanish players are doing at Liverpool isn't the only thing they ask about," he added.

"They are always asking about Gerrard and how good he is. Whenever Liverpool are on television in Spain, players and fans alike can see just how important a player he is.

"I get calls from people like Raul. He asks about Gerrard every time he telephones me or I telephone him.

"Like everyone else, he knows that he is a very good player and sees him every week on television."

NANDO FIT TO FACE BOLTON

Rafael Benitez has confirmed Fernando Morientes is fit to take his place in the Liverpool attack against Bolton tomorrow.

There were fears the Reds would go into the game without any recognised strikers to call on after Morientes suffered a thigh injury against Everton two weeks ago.

But the Spanish international has made a speedier than expected recovery and, after a final training session at Melwood this morning, he has been passed fit to face Sam Allardyce's side.

Djimi Traore will also return to the squad after recovering from injury and coming through 45 minutes of a reserve game in midweek.

Luis Garcia and Stephen Warnock are also fit after recovering from minor injuries sustained in the derby.

Manager Rafael Benitez said: "It is very pleasing to have these players available because they are very important for us for the rest of the season."

Can't say I'd be too bothered seeing Southampton go down. Niemi might find a real club! That said, Crouch seems determined to keep them up all on his lonesome.

I wouldn't mind seeing Liverpool make the CL again. Benitez is building an interesting team. I want to see him with the money to see it through. Everton would add nothing to the CL. They won't finish anywhere near this high next season.

I think that Liverpool proved that we do deserve to be in Europe, and I don't think that we will be underestimated any more. excellent 1st half. 2nd, well, we got tired and Juve started to play like Juve. but Gerrard didn't score, so Juve should be careful in the 2nd leg!

Cisse may play for the reserves in the next week or two! Alonso recently played 45 minutes for the reserves, so he may feature against Juve. finally things are looking up! having Cisse back will be a huge help in nabbing the 4th spot
