The luck never seems to leave Liverpool. They had a good 10 minutes while Milan had plenty more opportunities. But all the best to them even though they cannot be considered a European superpower.

Hey, we got beaten by the European Champion, no shame in losing in the quarters :)
Liverpool were the Porto of this season, lucky lucky team.

The FA has basically dashed our chances of making next years CL by saying they will give the 4th place to the 4th place EPL side rather than Liverpool if Liverpool win the CL this year. everton need three points from 3 games to clinch the 4th spot. A point or more for Everton in their against Newcastle coupled with a Liverpool loss on Sunday will also clinch it. If the two teams end up equal on points, Liverpool will probably have the 4th spot on goal difference, with a difference of +7 for 'pool.

in otherwords guys, our draw last week basically lost any chance we had.
Fair and sqaure. You lost the spot yourselves.

really??? I never noticed. but we made up for that in the CL
It's simple really. Just because Liverpool won the CL does not mean they should automatically get a place in next year's tourny. Rules are rules and you finished 5th in the EPL.

If Liverpool are given a place in the CL at the expense of another club the person who made the decision should be either shot or fired. Everton deserve their spot in next year's CL and if they are denied it would be a tragedy.

thanks Modo!

Andy-that's not what I meant. Everton do deserve their place, and I don't think it would be fair to deny them that. they did in the EPL what we did in the CL. when I said we made up for it I meant in terms of this season-whether it was a success or a failure. and while I understand that rules are rules, I do think that there should be a provision in case the CL winner does not qualify through it's league. obviously it wouldn't help 'pool now, but that's that. maybe they could do some sort of playoff game....I don't know, but there should be something

Ohhh, man. This again. The old "So team X won the tournament but sat on their fat arses during most of their national championship, so they should have the right to replace some other team that took their national championship more seriously" argument.

Winning the Champions League is its own reward. Defending it starts with actually bothering to place in your own domestic league.

the only reason that liverpool win tonight is because of the referee..

he is the worst referee....

1. he didnt notice about the assistant referee waiving his flags for offsides before the second goal happened...
2. when alonso took the pk in normal time, nesta was pushed by milan barros i think, he slipped.. if he hasnt, he would have got the ball first before alonso did.
3. dudek shouldnt have been allowed to move before the pk is taken... there is a rule about this...
