TURIN, Italy (AP) - World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi did not rule out a return to former club Juventus as speculation continued Thursday about his future.
"How can it be excluded when one spends 10 years at a club?" Lippi told Italian news agency ANSA.
Lippi had two spells as coach of the Turin powerhouse - from 1994-99 and 2001-04 - before guiding the Azzurri to their fourth World Cup title last July.
The 58-year-old coach stepped down as Italy boss after the tournament and has been linked with numerous high-profile jobs since - including manager of English teams Manchester United and Chelsea.
Lippi reiterated that he wasn't planning to coach again until next season and confirmed that he had only had contact with foreign clubs, ANSA reported.
Juventus signed former midfielder Didier Deschamps to a two-year contract as coach in July, after Fabio Capello left for Real Madrid following the Italian match-fixing scandal.
Juventus was demoted to the second division, stripped of its last two Serie A titles and docked points as a result of the scandal. Four other clubs also started the season with point penalties.
"Deschamps' team has already achieved an exceptional feat, recovering to the head of the standings despite nine penalty points," Lippi said. Juventus has 35 points and is tied with Napoli at the top of Italy's second division.
