To be fair to Bonucci, this was a very good game by him. I noted 2 mistakes, one was not playing the offside trap on one occasion, and the other was the situation with the backpass and dribble. Sure, those are negatives, but he had far too many positives in this game to receive heavy criticism.

Bonucci is so not 'Conte-Juve' material. However, If we don't get good offers for him, I'd keep him as a 2nd CB substitute.
What's the point of keeping him as a substitute?

Typically you want those to be reliable (usually older) players that are content with sitting on the bench mostly or youthful players with great potential and something to prove.

Bonucci is neither - just a liability.

Well there's no point in offloading him for a shit sum of money. I think Bonucci is still young and can work on some aspects of his game. He will not end up great though, but can reach an acceptable level for a backup.

The so-called heavy criticism is justified because it's a continuing pattern.

Defenders get put under greater scrutiny because individual mistakes potentially punish the rest of the team at a higher rate, comparative to other positions.

If the guy is consistently presenting the opposition with a dangerous opportunity (even just one) each match he deserves the flak.

I'm sure we wouldn't have much trouble getting 7 or 8m euros for him. Acceptable, I think.
