Yeah, he's as conservative as they get.

He thinks homosexuality is "an intrinsic human evil", and he's also strongly against abortion and contraception.

Yeah... good choice, congratulations.

Panzer Pope :D
My man!!! I must admit, I use condoms though. Don't call me a hypocrite!

This dude is 78 years old too...

It won't be too long before we have a new one.
Agreed, but it may be enough for him to make a solid impact. Paul XI was 78 when he was elected, and look at the "damage" he caused... (Vatican II).

Pope Benedict XVI, who is the oldest pope for more than a century, was born in 1927 into a traditional farming family in Bavaria, Germany, although his father was a policeman.

The BBC's Ray Furlong in Berlin said Cardinal Ratzinger's election as pope would generate amazement and enthusiasm in Germany as well as concern among those who had hoped for a more liberal pontiff.

The future pope's studies at seminary were interrupted by World War II and his supporters say that his experiences under the Nazi regime convinced him that the church had to stand up for truth and freedom.

A close friend and confidante of Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI is also known as a fellow conservative.

For more that 20 years he was head of the congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith in the Vatican - the Vatican's guardian of orthodoxy.

Analysts say his papacy is sure to continue John Paul II's strongly traditional interpretation of the Catholic faith, including opposition to abortion, homosexuality, priestly marriage and women priests.

OK, here is some shit. A couple years ago I saw a documentary on the Papacy and it talked of a long-standing doomsday prediction from centuries ago that predicted John Paul II, seeing a very long-serving Pope leading into the 21st Century. The prediction went that he would be succeeded by a Pope who would only serve for a very short time, and the next Pope would be the final Pope.

Contraception???

"HIV? Sure, why dont you come in, make yourself comfortable, we dont mind. Let me get you a drink while you kill millions of people all over the world, that must be exhausting work. Put your feet up, mi casa es su casa."
Well in the views of the Catholic Church, pre-marital sex is a sin. When you have a committed Catholic partner, they most likely have never had sex before, therefore making them free of STDs and such. Also, life begins as soon as the sperm meets the egg in the eyes of Catholics, and the only reason to have sex is to pro-create. That's probably why the Church is against contraception.
