Lazio commenced their away campaign with a creditable draw against the defending champions in Milan. Reja’s men silenced the San Siro by taking a two-goal lead before Ibrahimovic and Cassano levelled affairs before the break.
The Biancocelesti registered their first win away from the Olimpico in their next game against Cesena, with Hernanes and Klose replying to Mutu’s opener. This was followed by an identical scoreline in Florence featuring the same goalscorers. A third successive away victory came against Bologna (2-0), while strikes from Lulic, Klose and Rocchi continued their superb run with a resounding 3-0 win in Cagliari.
It was Napoli who brought an end to the Biancocelesti’s winning streak of form, although the goalless shutout at the San Paolo allowed the visitors to remain in pole position after twelve fixtures.
They soon returned to winning ways in Lecce, coming from behind to record a 3-2 success.
Lazio’s first away defeat came after seventeen games as Siena cruised to a 4-0 win. It sparked the beginning of a negative period on the road and Inter were next to pounce, recording a 2-1 success at the San Siro. Yet Reja’s men rallied in their following fixture to overcome Chievo 3-0 in Verona.
The recovery, however, was only brief, confirmed by Genoa’s 3-2 win in Liguria. Events took a turn for the worse as Palermo ran riot in a 5-1 victory at the Renzo Barbera. Lazio redeemed themselves with a 2-1 derby win against Roma, but then slipped to successive defeats to Catania and Parma.
