Lampard's Contract Talks Rumble On

Chelsea’s talismanic midfielder Frank Lampard has reportedly rejected a lucrative contract offer from the Blues, according to the News of the World.

In an attempt to secure the players peak years at Stamford Bridge, Chief Executive Peter Kenyon offered to make the England International the highest paid-player at the club, exceeding the wages of the expensive and controversial recruits Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack.

With pre-season training around the corner the Chelsea exec’s will be in a state of panic at Lampard’s decision, especially as the player’s former boss Claudio Ranieri has already listed Lampard as his main transfer target at Juventus.

Transfer speculation had also been rife about a possible move of Lampard to Catalan giants Barcelona as early as from January and today’s revelation shall surely spark the interests of Barca’s coach Rijkaard, already a big admirer of the prolific midfielder.

A possible swap deal between the Spanish club and Chelsea, involving Lampard and Deco, has already been mooted in the past weeks; however Chelsea insiders have indicated that one Jose Mourniho would be loath to lose one of the main cornerstones of his successful team.

The Chelsea boss, although having enjoyed a successful spell with Deco in the past, sees no advantage from trading a proven, leading player of the English league for a player with question-marks over his ability to adapt to the Premiership.

Although Chelsea have yet to make an official statement concerning Lampard’s immediate future, the payer himself has hardly dampened the transfer rumours with recent remarks over his current contractual situation.

"Talks have been going on for over a year now and nothing is really decided," he said. "I said after the FA Cup final that I wanted to stay, but it is down to them”.

It seems Chelsea’s failure to secure Lampard’s future earlier in the year could come back to haunt them. The potential fall-out from a prospective Lampard move could be vast as Mourinho, already critical of his superiors, would see this eventuality as a mark of the Chelsea board’s ineptitude.

The Sun are reporting that he has interrupted his vacations to rush back to London, insisting that Chelsea secure Lampard to a new contract as quickly as possible.

His wages might not be so bad if we let him keep his own image rights, which now seems to be the main problem according to the British press.

`BIG CLUBS DON`T WANT LAMPARD`

Sunday's Observer quotes a Barcelona executive as saying that Frank Lampard 'knows he has no chance of moving' to any of the big European clubs and so will almost definitely stay at Chelsea.

'There is no other option. He has been offered to us, Milan, Inter and Real Madrid. Basically all of the big clubs. But none are interested. We are the same as those clubs are, we're looking for a player who is more creative and has a greater technique than Lampard. So it looks like he will go nowhere.'

The England midfielder has been trying to negotiate a new contract for the past year, with negotiations seemingly deadlocked because of his excessive demands.

Apparently Lampard wants to earn the same as Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack, Chelsea's top earners, reportedly on £130,000 a week.

Lampard has been offered £110,000, around £20,000 more than his current deal, although the News of the World claims that Lampard turned down an offer that would have made him the club's highest earner.

and is not as complete as tiago, tiago does exactly what lampard does, but covers his defence better, and has a better long shot accuracy than lampard
Now thats taking it too far,i'm a big fan of Tiago..but in now way is he better than Lampard..He defends better and has more tecnique..But Lampard's got a bigger engine,Scores more goals,is a better passer and defenitly has a better long shot than tiago does(even though Tiago's shots are good too).

lampard tried too hard to score from range, and alot of them end up in row Z, tiago is more of a team player imo, lampards majority of goals come from close range free kicks or peno's quite frankly im glad we got tiago and wont be getting lampard

On the contraray i'd say Lampard is very accurate in his shots for a midfielder...His goal scoring record speaks for itself..Theres no basis for you saying Tiago is more of a team player..as with Lyon he has taken his fair share of long range shots that have ended in row z too.

ill have to agree with badass on this one... i am a fan of both players, but i believe that tiago is the more complete player here, and he has proved himself in england, france as well as on the international stage. a great signing IMO.

like i said lampards sole objective to his game is to go for the spectacular, he wants the ball and just blasts it from where he is, im sure uve seen him for england, thats all he does, nowonder england fans hate him, they are sick of his greed.

tiago only does it wen he sees necessary, but he is a machine as he showed with portugal and lyon, and mourinho himself was upset to see him leave. imo i rate tiago as the more complete midfielder to lampard, not saying that cuz tiago is a juventino but thats just what i see as ive seen alot of tiago, and the prem is a league i watch every week. thats my conclusion

I watch both the premiership and the ligue 1 every week...tiago has proved himself no doubt about that...But in no way is he better than Lampard IMO..thats my conclusion..i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree:)

in the world cup how many shots did lampard have? like 30 and he didn't score one goal, he even missed a penalty in the shoot out!

So because he was crap at the WC that erases everything he's done for Chelsea in the EPL and CL??

Tiago wasnt anything special in the WC either..

And what i really find odd,is before Tiago joined Juve, most of you didnt want him...I remember me and Andy and a few other members were the only ones defending him..Now all of a sudden he's this great midfielder..:lazy:

ive liked tiago ever since he signed for chelsea, and i love lampard too... but history shows that british dont succeed in italy, so tiago was the better option IMO
