Ajax's history speaks for themselves. They are among the best besides getting knocked out in the final by Juventus in the CL :p
Other than that, I think they can stand up high. Their records kick ass compared to Arsenal, Inter, Valencia etc. And yet these teams are more attractive than Ajax. I guess money afterall is a huge ass factor in today's football industry which is pretty much disappointing.
Afterall Bayern Munich pulls it off being an European powerhouse in a less attractive league. So I'm pretty sure Ajax can do so as well. I'm pretty sure the sales of all these players have brought in enough cash to boom the Ajax squad. Where does all these money go?

Problem is tv-revenues. They aren't nearly as high as in other European leagues.
Even so, i think ajax is a pretty wealthy club. I don't think they're in desperate need for money to sell all their best players. They should just keep their players and try to do good both in league and in europe (after all ajax is not a financial company were profits is the main goal, its a football club where results and trophies is the most important thing)......

They are on the Amsterdam stock exchange so actually they are. They have to answer to the board and to the stock holders and need to make profit as a result.

Besides that it's a matter of prestige too. When a Juve, Inter, Real or Liverpool comes knockin' there aren't many players who can refuse. Ajax isn't a European cup contender for some years now. Even in Holland PSV have passed Ajax when it comes to success and winning trophies.

here has been a lot of mismanagement at Ajax the last couple of years. Kind of the shit going on at Juve right now: the wrong people pulling the strings, a new coach each year and buying players that will not take Ajax to the next level. So Ajax is a great example of what may become of Juve when taking the wrong road for too long ;)

Remember the last time Juve won the CL was only 1 year after Ajax won it, so everything is possible.

Yeah, I like him. He is a center defender with a good pass and technique. He have said in an interview he have a great long shot also, but i haven't seen that yet. But he haven't played for Ajax much. But when he played he was good, and you never saw it was a youngster. He have balls and issn't nervous. He have gutts in his play. Thinking forward. I think he will be the successor of Heitinga, but there will come a player more to catch up Heitinga's loose. I hope Boulahrouz will come back. A player of the Ajax Youth Programme too.
Brilliant post, thanks for letting me know. +rep.

we need a replecament for Trez. he´s not 21 anymore. he can play on for3/4 years, but we need another goal poacher. Yes, Amauri is good, but not a type of player we really need IMO. Huntelaar, maybe Borriello?

But there is a big difference between making it to a big club, and making it at a big club.

See Gilardino for further more information.

Huntelaar: I Want To Join A Top Team

Ajax striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar told Sportweek that when he leaves Ajax, he wants it to be for one of the top clubs in Europe...

The 24-year-old admits that the prospect of him securing an immediate move abroad are slim, but that he has his eye on a top club in future.

"My contract runs until 2010, and there are no sell-on contracts and no need for the club to offload me," he conceded.

"Lots of factors play a role here: what will Ajax do, what club will come in for me, and when?

"But Ajax can help me earn that move, as well as myself. They gave me the opportunity, and made me what I am."

Lofty Goals

He's in no doubt as to what kind of move he wants, too.

"Everyou wants to sign for the sort of club that plays to their strengths," he explained.

"So, I'd like an offensive side that operates in the opponent's box a lot. And I want it to be a top team. I wouldn't leave Ajax in the lurch for anything less."

The current Eredivisie top goalscorer concluded by reflecting on Marco van Basten's appointment as Ajax coach, effective at the end of the current campaign.

Klaas-Jan revealed, "When I last talked to him it was in his capacity as Oranje [national team] boss, and he said that it would be best for my development if I made a move to a top club.

"Now, I speak to him in his position as Ajax boss, and things are different. He wants me to stay."

Great answers, thats a real Ajax player with ambitons. Its for sure he wants to leave Ajax for a real topclub like Manchester or Juventus. But he also understands what Ajax have done for him.
I really, really hopes he will stay one more year. He is the most important Ajax player.

'Hunter' has Van Basten in his sights

Klaas Jan Huntelaar is closing in on an AFC Ajax landmark as he attempts to force his way into the Netherlands reckoning for UEFA EURO 2008™.

Van Basten record
Not since 1986/87, when Marco van Basten struck 31 times, has an Ajax striker scored 30 Eredivisie goals in a season but, with 27 in 28 appearances so far this season and six matches still to play, Huntelaar has the achievement in his sights. The 24-year-old scored 33 goals in 2005/06, although 17 of them came for SC Heerenveen before a January switch to Amsterdam, while his first full season at Ajax brought 21 goals in 32 matches. He has now rediscovered his most prolific form, however, and has certainly given Van Basten food for thought ahead of the friendly with UEFA EURO 2008™ co-hosts Austria at the end of this month.

Back in the squad
The Netherlands coach omitted "The Hunter" from his squad for the decisive Group G qualifying matches against Luxembourg and Belarus in November and, having recalled the forward for last month's 3-0 friendly win in Croatia – with Huntelaar scoring the second goal in what Van Basten described as "a result that will impress Europe" – has picked him again in his provisional 29-man squad for the 26 March meeting with Austria. With the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt, Danny Koevermans and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink providing competition up front, Huntelaar nevertheless has much to do to force his way into the reckoning despite four goals in only ten international appearances to date.

Overseas ambitions
Van Basten, who will take over at the Amsterdam ArenA following UEFA EURO 2008™, is clearly an admirer of Huntelaar and is keen for the striker to prolong an Ajax contract that runs until 2010. "We must try to keep players like him at Ajax," Van Basten said. "Although I've said before it might be better for him to go abroad, now I'd rather he stayed." Huntelaar, for whom this summer's tournament would be a first major finals after being overlooked for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a disappointment to which he responded by helping the Netherlands to victory in that summer's UEFA European Under-21 Championship, is typically modest about his ambitions. "I don't think I've become too big for the Eredivisie already, although maybe you can improve faster abroad," he said. "Maybe I will wait until after the European Championship before making up my mind." For now, he has other ambitions on his mind.
