Huntelaar: A Transfer Assessment

Dutch star player Klaas-Jan Huntelaar erupted with Ajax and could perhaps be considered as the new major sensation of the Dutch footballing school.

The striker has continuously progressed with the Lanciers and has drawn the eyes of many prestigious European clubs, making him a possible key figure in this summer’s transfer campaign.

The Netherlands have had a long-standing tradition of producing world-class players who eventually moved abroad and flourished with the major European top clubs. In many cases, they instantly turned into core players and they left a mark in each club they have played with.

The first important transfer of a Dutch player to a foreign club dates back to 1949, when striker Faas Wilkes joined Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan. Wilkes suddenly became a fan’s favourite as they affectingly called him the “Tulip”.

The Dutch striker formed together with Hungarian juggernaut Istvan Nyers a devastating duo upfront and in the 1950/1951 Serie A season the Wilkes/Nyers duo scored 54 goals and the Nerazzurri ended that season on a 2nd spot with 59 points, one point behind city cousins and champions AC Milan.

In more recent times, the three Dutch players who have written a page in the history of football and also rank among the best players ever, are without a doubt Johan Cruyff, Marco Van Basten and Dennis Bergkamp. All three exploited and gained their fame in the 3 most prestigious European leagues (La Liga, the Serie A and the Premier League respectively).

Johan Cruyff was one of the inventors of the Dutch “Voetbal Total”, a revolutionary footballing style that emerged in the 1970s. The “Total Football” was a creative style of playing, similar to the Hungarian style of the 1950s, which implied all players interchanging their roles according to the situation on the pitch and Cruyff established himself as leader of the 'Oranje’.

Cruyff embarked on his foreign experience in 1973 when he joined Spanish side FC Barcelona. The Dutch star player played a fundamentally important role with Barça obtaining the 1973/1974 championship following a 14 years long victory hiatus of the Catalan club in the Liga .

He is particularly remembered for his stunning performance in the game against archrivals Real Madrid in the Bernabéu stadium, where the Blaugranas crushed the Merengues with a dramatic 5-0 score known as a 'manita’ (little hand).

Marco Van Basten joined AC Milan in 1987 and stayed with the Rossoneri until 1995. During that period of time, the Swan of Utrecht led AC Milan to win several international trophies which significantly enhanced the trophy haul of the Milan based club.

The extremely talented Dutch striker scored 90 goals during his stint with AC Milan and earned the Golden Ball award three times, making him the most successful Dutch player on international field.

He has remained deep in the hearts of many AC Milan fans and rivals Cruyff when the general public is given the question who the best ever player to come out from Holland was.

Dennis Bergkamp is probably the most outstanding Dutch footballer that the Premier League has ever seen. Following 2 unfortunate seasons with Inter Milan, Dennis Bergkamp switched clubs in 1995 and joined Arsenal.

The striker soon became a top choice of Gunners tactician Arsene Wenger and during 11 years long Premiership experience, Bergkamp managed to obtain twice the double (Premiership & FA Cup) in 1998 and 2002 and in the 1997-1998 season he won the PFA Player Of The Year title.

His main characteristics were ball control and his ability to remain calm and keep the situation under control whilst building up a scoring chance. That is also why he was regarded more as an assist maker and he is therefore among the top 3 assist makers who have ever played in the Premier League.

There is a fair bet that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could become a heir of the 4 aforementioned class players. The Hunter hit the net 33 times in the 2005/2006 season and in this current season he has scored 17 goals thus far.

He is continuously improving his skills and that is why he will likely move abroad this summer. The club who has particularly kept an eye on the Dutch sensation are Juventus.

The Old Dame suffered from a Serie B relegation last summer following the football scandals that affected the Calcio and saw many of her star players ending up joining other clubs.

The Turin based club are currently in the works to build up a strong competitive team for next year and consider Huntelaar as a top choice purchase that would help the Bianconeri aspire to trophies.

However, not only Juventus are after the hitman. Inter Milan are reportedly seeking the player as he could join the Nerazzurri and give his contribution to win a possible triple (Scudetto, Champions League and Coppa Italia) considering the fact that Moratti wants to create an all star team in prospect of the club’s centenary.

Also FC Barcelona and Manchester United are carefully observing the 23 years old. The Blaugranas may consider him as a replacement for Ronaldinho, who recently has been linked to a summer transfer to AC Milan.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, may see key player Cristiano Ronaldo moving to another club (Real Madrid being the presumable destination) and could therefore make a bid to Ajax to acquire the player.

Without a doubt, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will be under the spotlight of this summer’s transfer campaign. Could he be ready to maintain the long-standing tradition of Dutch star players who moved to the more prestigious European tournaments and collected a series of important trophies?

The answer to the question is yes, because Huntelaar has demonstrated his talents on the pitch and he would perfectly adapt himself to the higher playing standards of the Serie A, La Liga and Premier League.

All that seems to say is that he is likely to leave Ajax in the summer.

It basically lists most of Europes top teams, not much of a guide as to where he will go.

It seems that we have had a important contact with Ajax and found an agreement for Huntelaar for around 16 Mil. Euros. If nothing goes wrong he should join us this summer. :)

Plz dont eat me alive but the source is a member of J1897 that is very very close to the club (he has given some important informations->cripted; before they have been given from the club). Only one example of his knowledge: He has known the entire first eleven including the exchange of Juve-Triestina far before they have been given to the medias
