Di Marzio is one of the more accurate guys on the mercato. He was suggesting that should we land Keita, no other attackers would leave. I assume though that Kean will be loaned out.
In all of my years following this club, I have never seen us going into a season with so many attacking players. Cuadrado, Costa, Bernardeschi, Dybala, Pjaca, Keita, Mandzukic, Higuain - 8! In theory one can understand that we play with 4 - so a sub for each position - but many of those attacking players have multiple roles - Cuadrado (RW/RWB), Costa (LW/RW), Bernardeschi (LW/RW, AM, SS), Dybala (AM, SS, ST), Pjaca (LW/RW, SS, AM), Keita (LW, RW, SS, ST), Mandzukic (LW, ST), Higuain (just ST).
If the above is true, then I assume that given we enter a season with a squad size of 24-25 senior players, we would have 3 Goalkeepers, 8 Defenders, 6 CMs, and 8 forwards.
Not convinced on Cancelo and to be honest, I think our management has reservations about him as well. Spinazzola would make a lot of sense given that he can also play as a right back too. I also wouldn't rule out another CB like Garay. But it looks like we are doing a major clear out in mids this season. Lemina is almost gone, I suspect Rincon is going and possibly 1 or both or Sturaro and Asamoah.
Despite Atalanta playing hard ball on Spinazzola, I think if Juve really wants him, they will find a way. We may offer a free loan of Rincon (where we still pay a chunk of his salary) and a few other youth players on loan to sweeten the deal.
On the CM front, I think its going to be Matuidi.
My best guess for the rest of the mercato is: IN: Spinazzola, Matuidi, Keita, and maybe Garay; OUT: Lichsteiner, Lemina, Rincon, Asamoah or Sturaro, Kean (loan).
Maybe we should consider recalling Lirola while we are at it. He may be a better option than Cancelo to be fair.
