The reason people say things like that is because they have - consciously or subconsciously - given up all hope of winning CL, and are looking at signings that would increase the longevity of our domestic dominance.

You would never see fans of clubs like Barca, Real, or even Bayern talking about selling their stars in order to buy 2-3 good players.
