Juve eye Kanoutè swoop Thursday 22 February, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus have made a £12.8m offer for Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoutè, according to reports in Spain.

The Bianconeri are looking to strengthen their squad in view of their likely return to Serie A and need fresh blood in their striking department, as David Trezeguet seems set to leave the outfit in the summer.

The Old Lady are also eager to build a competitive team in order to convince players like Mauro Camoranesi and Gianluigi Buffon to accept another season away from the European stage.

The website Sport.es reports that Kanoutè has been eyed by Juve scouts who have been travelling through Europe and South America, as he is considered a perfect replacement for Trezeguet.

The French-Malian striker currently leads the scorers’ chart in La Liga with 18 goals, ahead of the likes of Ronaldinho and Ruud Van Nilstelrooy.

Kanoutè is contracted until 2009 and has a £17.8m release clause, but rumours suggest that Juve’s bid might be enough to convince the Spanish outfit to let the 29-year-old leave.

If the Mali international were to snub the Bianconeri, the alternative is likely to be Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar of Ajax, who was already paired with Juve before Christmas.

One season wonder IMO. Kind of like Ricardo Olivera, a good player but not a Trez replacement. Klose would be an ideal replacement, maybe even Huntelaar.

According to wikipedia he has had over 80 games and 24 goals for West Ham. He was simply average, apart from this season.
Screw Wikipedia. He was doing good, I watched him. Like I said, not a decent replacement for Trezeguet, but he mos def is not a one year wonder.

I didn`t see him play but he doesn`t sound like the best way replacing Trez

I think that if Eto is available we will sign him tough I am for us getting Klose

Kanoute has not proven himself to be a world class striker and with a buy out clause of $20+ million for a ONE YEAR WONDER (which he is undoubtedly) Juve should definately look elsewhere for a Trez replacement. And make no bones about it...like it or not Trez is leaving...i would love to see Klose in a Juve jersey i think he would do a great job in Italian football. He has dribbling abilities, perfect control and finish and he moves a lot off the ball.

A player who has played for only mid table clubs, and never really excelled at any point in his career, until that one season.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, far from it, but I'll need a few more top notch seasons before I'd want him at Juve for that amount of money.

Kanoute was one of the best players in West Ham, had he not been injured much, he would be even better.

adriano - not sure whether to go along with the fact he didnt score for almost a year, or when he had a goal rush
Try again.
