We move the ball much quicker and more direct with De Ligt in that role. No wonder our play looks more fluid. When everyone's fit, anything else than this backline for the remainder of the season would be purely political.

Yep, he offers so much more pace and agility than Bonucci as well. It allows the rest of the team to be more fluid and mobile cause they don't have to track back every damn time to cover for Bonucci's weaknesses against the counter.

I know we’re playing Cagliari but that is the kind of football we’ve been missing for so long.

I hope we really keep this up and dominate for 90 mins. Just a fantastic half with excellent football and attitude from the team.

So good to have De Ligt back, Arthur playing very well, looks balanced with Rabiot. Kulu - Morata - Ronaldo trident looking like they have a really strong understanding. Best we’ve played in over 9 months

I've said it for ages. Bumucci is the problem. Granted its cagliari but that team have been free scoring this season and they've not had a sniff so far. Bumucci no doubt would have stuck his ass out and Joao Pedro skip past him

I like Arthur, and his magnetic ability to hold onto the ball is very impressive, but you get the feeling that we are using him in the wrong way as that DLP. We still look very exposed on counters especially with someone like Rabiot who wants to push on a bit. Arthur would look better with a DM behind him and trying to make more forward runs and passes. Pirlo is using him like...Pirlo, but he doesn't have that diagonal pass vision so far.

All in all pleased with the half. We deserve to lead but tactically they did ok until Ronaldo scored his half chance. Now the game is much more spread in our favour.

he’s not put a foot wrong today. He’s been available, kept the ball and distributed it well. He’s not the type of player to hit a 50yarder so he’s done his job very very well. It’s frustrating sometimes but not today.
