Pjanic being horseshoed into that regista role all season is the most annoying aspect of this year. Last year it was understandable as we didn’t have Can and Bentancur was nowhere near ready, but this year we could easily have played Can or Bentancur in that position and Berna or Matuidi along with Pjanic with more freedom to roam forward to create from the mid.

When you don’t have a Pirlo it’s pointless. Get and play a CDM like Kante there (or if Can improves)... and play creative mids on either side.

Should have ended with Pirlo. Unless you can perform miracles why in the modern era of over aggressive pressing and fast counter attacks would you want somebody playing 30-40 yards from your own net fucking around all game just begging to be pressed and too far from goal to do anything that can't be achieved with a few short simple passes.

You mean Pjanic isn't a 100m regista?

As a regista? No. Well, I’m sure some random team would have paid that for him easily after 16-17. But he was in a 2-man mid that season and not really a regista. He was better than our other options there last year, but this year would have been nice to put Can in that role and push Pjanic further up the pitch.

On top form, when allowed to create, he’s easily one of the better mids in football.
