With Marchisio playing deep, we really are dynamic. The great thing is we can switch from the control of Pirlo to the dynamic hard work of Marchisio, depending on the match up. I'd like to see Conte rotate the two more often. Pirlo is so much better when he has been rested. His form dips wildly when he is playing too frequently, and a year older next year, he'll need more rest.
That's kind of his nature though. He's so hard working and all over the place that he frequently screws up promising attacks, almost every match. But that hard work pays off almost every match. If he doesn't hit the post and buries that chance, we're all probably hailing him for his fantastic first half performance. Sometimes luck isn't there, a few inches is the difference between us calling him meh, or fantastic. That corner was sublime though. It was Pirlo-esque. I give him a pass for the first half based on it alone. Not great, but, like you say, decent. I like his energy even while ahead.
