In Belgium you need to work 3 years as a junior lawyer (after 5 years of law school). You have exams now and then, and after three years you're officially a Lawyer.
I guess I'll do that after my studies (+specialisation).

Well, I may be wrong, but I think that lawyers use people's ignorance in the court cases to make those cases go as they want...
They exploit all the holes in the law when they want to do so, and act like an ignorant when they don't want to do so...
I may be wrong, but 99.99999991% of the lawyers I dealt with were like this...

In most cases, both parties are represented by a lawyer, so they can't really exploit anyones ignorance. Plus, there are a lot of guaranties to secure the right of defence,...
Of course, this varies a lot from country to country (e.g. the use of a jury in civil cases in the usa,...).
People are often 'afraid' of lawyers, because they speak with weird words, they know stuff that most people don't have a clue of ('cause they didn't study it).
It's typically human to fear the unknown, isn't it?
oh, and of course, there are a few/lot dirty lawyers....
It is. The code of deontology is very strict. And the head of the Bar (batonnier in French) controls the lawyers and might suspend them if they don't follow the rules.

Sometimes, you hear astronomic amounts, but keep in mind that it represents months of work.
And that a lot of collaborators, secretaries, ... are gonna be paid with that money.
But enough with lawyers. Not a good discussion for a sunday afternoon in a bar.

ermm.. I dunno. Lawyers don't have fixed hours or anything. You're paid for the work you deliver, not for the hours.
But I guess it's something of 8-10hours a day. 5-7 days a week. It really depends of the Law firm you work in.
btw I didn't even finish Law school yet, so I don't plan to work in the next 2 years.
A question for you all: how old were you / will you be, when you finished uni/school.
I'll be 22, and that's waaaaaay to young to work yet. For me.
But I guess it's something of 8-10hours a day. 5-7 days a week. It really depends of the Law firm you work in.
