Last night’s 2-0 victory against Napoli enabled Juventus to open up a three-point lead over their visitors at the top of the league.
But Saturday’s success wasn’t just about the Bianconeri re-establishing their supremacy at the summit of Serie A.
The victory also shattered the Partenopei’s unbeaten start to the season, while the two goals and clean sheet saw Antonio Conte’s men confirm themselves as the best attack (19 goals scored) and defence (four conceded) in the championship.
The matchup between the two early pace setters was always destined produce a hard-fought encounter. Napoli completed more of their passes (with Inler and Campagnaro at the top of the pile) and enjoyed 54% of the overall possession.
The shots on goal, however, tell a different story.
Massimo Carrera had used his pre-match press conference to warn of Napoli’s threat on the counter. And it appears his words were taken on board as Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini restricted the Partenopei to just three shots on goal. Other than Cavani’s free-kick, which cannoned off the bar midway through the first half, Storari was rarely called into action.
Urged forward by their passionate support at Juventus Stadium, the BIanconeri pulled the trigger on 13 occasions. Giovinco led the way with three shots, followed by Asamoah and Pirlo on two apiece.
