D'Agostino almost a Juventino

Monday 8 June, 2009

Gaetano D'Agostino is waiting for the outcome of a meeting between Udinese and Juventus today, which will ultimately decide his future.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant season for Udinese, scoring 11 goals in 36 appearances.

Juventus are believed to have had an offer accepted for the Italy international, but some details need to be ironed out before the transfer goes through.

“The two clubs will meet today and I don't want to put myself in the middle of them. I await their decision calmly,” D'Agostino told Sky Italia.

“Udine will always be the city that has given me the most in my little career. They bought me when I still had a lot to prove. They waited for me in my first year.

“I have achieved good results for two years now and I owe a lot to Coach Pasquale Marino, who has given me a lot.

“The objectives, the pressure and the players will all change with Juve. There are little difficulties that I will face calmly like I did my debut with La Nazionale. I feel mature,” he explained.

D'Agostino also had words of respect for Ciro Ferrara, Italy's assistant trainer, who recently took charge of Juventus on a full time basis.

“Ferrara has not said anything to me. He has a superb relationship with the players of the national team. On a charismatic level he has great drive.

“If Juve have chosen to give Ferrara the top job it means to say that he is a great trainer,” D'Agostino concluded.

Pozzo: D'Ago will play for Juve

    Tuesday 9 June, 2009

Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo has revealed he has yet to reach an agreement with Juventus for Gaetano D'Agostino but insists the player will move to Turin.

Udinese representatives met their Juventus counterparts yesterday to iron out a deal for the talented goalscoring midfielder, who is currently on international duty.

However, the two parties apparently came to an impasse when discussing the player's value, delaying the transfer indefinitely.

“We are satisfied with the player, but there is no agreement on the money,” Pozzo said. “D'Agostino will play for Juve, though.”

According to Tuttosport, Juventus' offer is £7m short of Udinese's asking price.

The Bianconeri are said to be thinking about making a new offer, which would include Michele Paolucci and 50 per cent of Paolo De Ceglie plus £5m in cash.

Del Piero contract talks on hold

    Tuesday 9 June, 2009

Alessandro Del Piero is unlikely to receive a new contract offer from Juventus anytime soon, according to Tuttosport.

The 34-year-old legend is tied to the Bianconeri until the end of next season, when he is free to entertain other offers.

The Juventus hierarchy have yet to sit him down and discuss his future beyond 2010, causing the club's fans some concern.

The Bianconeri's director of sport Alessio Secco recently admitted he has more pressing issues to deal with than Del Piero.

After signing Diego and Fabio Cannavaro, Secco is looking for two or three more players ahead of next season.

Tuttosport believe Del Piero is happy with that explanation as long as Juventus eventually come up with something for him.

The World Cup winner does not want to be left hanging until the final moment for the club to make a decision on his future.

He is said to be ready to accept a contract that is inferior to his current deal, which is worth around £3.5m a season.

Del Piero's stance is very clear. He does not intend to retire on June 30, 2010 and would like to have the chance to play in Juventus' new stadium.

He is a piece of Juventus history, having scored 263 goals in 617 appearances for the club since 1993.

    Marchionni key to Pasqual deal

    Wednesday 10 June, 2009

Juventus are thinking about offering Fiorentina Marco Marchionni in exchange for Manuel Pasqual, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Bianconeri are looking for a left-back ahead of next season, as Cristian Molinaro and Paolo De Ceglie are both out injured.

Juventus had initially considered making a bid for Fabio Grosso, but the Italy defender is 31 and still has five years left on his contract at Lyon.

Pasqual represents a much cheaper option as he only has a year left on his current deal with Fiorentina and just turned 27.

However, the Viola are playing hardball and their director of sport, Pantaleo Corvino, recently said: “Pasqual is not on the market.”

He might change his mind, though, now Juventus are thinking about making Marchionni part of the deal.

Fiorentina Coach Cesare Prandelli has always admired the right winger and worked with him at Parma.

The likelihood of Marchionni leaving grew today, as Bruno Carpeggiani, his agent, admitted his client could be surplus to requirements in Turin.

“Marco could be put on the market for technical reasons. With Juventus playing a diamond in midfield there is no need for wingers,” he said.

However, Carpeggiani denied having made any arrangement that would see Marchionni move to the Viola.

“I have had absolutely no contact with Fiorentina even if in Florence there is a Coach who gave him his first big break.

“In any case, Marchionni still has two years left on his contract and does not need to find another team,” he concluded.

According La Gazzetta, Juventus Coach Ciro Ferrara wants all transfers completed by July 5 so any new players have time to assimilate with the team ahead of next season.

    Cobolli Gigli: D'Ago deal stalls

    Thursday 11 June, 2009

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli admits negotiations for Udinese midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino are still only 'halfway down the line'.

The sticking point appears to be Sebastian Giovinco, the talented Juventus trequartista, who Udinese want to form part of the deal.

Udinese would like to part-own the 'Atomic Ant', but Juventus are reluctant to let go of a player who could yet succeed Ale Del Piero.

“Sebastian interests Ferrara a lot. Jean-Claude Blanc and Alessio Secco are working with great determination on this field,” Cobolli Gigli explained.

He then went on to say Juventus would not be abandoning their interest in D'Agostino despite the hiccup in negotiations.

“There are alternatives, but for the moment we are looking to concentrate ourselves on this deal.” Cobolli Gigli revealed.

“D'Agostino is a great central midfielder, we will keep our feet on the ground.”

Cobolli Gigli later denied Juventus have made an attempt to sign want-away Lazio striker Goran Pandev.

“No, he is a good player, but at the moment in which we are interested we will go and speak with Lazio President Claudio Lotito.

“At the moment, that has not yet happened,” Cobolli Gigli said. “We have not asked about him.”

A deal for Pandev is linked with the future of David Trezeguet, the Juventus striker, who is being linked with Roma and Lyon.

“David is a player, who always interests Juventus. He wants to have greater opportunities to play and, if interesting proposals were made to us for him, we would evaluate them,” Cobolli Gigli revealed.

He finished off his Press conference by defending Ciro Ferrara, the new Juventus trainer, who hasn't any previous experience as a Coach.

“Ferrara is a guarantee, but in work there are always bets to wage. Anyway he is a guarantee,” Cobolli Gigli concluded.

Trez is not on the market

    Friday 12 June, 2009

Juventus striker David Trezeguet is not for sale despite reports to the contrary, according to his agent Antonio Caliendo.

Only this morning, the Italian Press suggested the Bianconeri intend to use Trezeguet as bait for Elano or Giuseppe Rossi.

Trezeguet himself did little to commit himself to Juventus, saying he would score goals with or without them.

“Juventus want to keep Trezeguet,” Caliendo told L'Equipe. “Alessio Secco told me that he is unsellable and not on the market.”

On being asked if his client might be a target for Real Madrid, Caliendo replied: “With Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo he would score 45 goals in a season.

“His football is compatible with that of Real,” he concluded.

Trezeguet is a piece of Juventus history. He is the most prolific foreigner ever to play for the Bianconeri with 138 goals in 220 appearances.

    Grosso interests Juve again

    Friday 12 June, 2009

Juventus' search for a full-back goes on and Lyon's Fabio Grosso is on their radar again after Fiorentina's Manuel Pasqual appeared to turn them down.

The Bianconeri have identified the left-back position as a weak spot, as Cristian Molinaro and Paolo De Ceglie are already struggling to be fit in time for next season.

Juventus' scouts apparently have extensive reports on Grosso, but turned their attention away from him because of his age and wage demands.

Grosso is 32 in November and some feel he is past his best despite some good performances in the Champions League.

The Bianconeri had their hearts set on Pasqual instead, who is only 27 and out of contract next season at Fiorentina.

However, yesterday his agent revealed the Viola are about to offer his client a new deal and he is likely to stay in Tuscany.

Juventus are now expected to eschew concerns regarding Grosso's age and just plumb for him in light of his undeniable quality.

Grosso is valued at around £2.5m, which is still relatively cheap for a player with 42 caps for Italy and a World Cup winners' medal to his name.
