Dida - 8 - Apart from the costly mistake of letting in Smicer’s weak shot against Liverpool had an excellent season, saving Milan numerous
times, most notably both Champions League games against Inter Milan where he pulled off amazing save after amazing save to keep Milan in the
game. One of my candidates for player of the season.

Valerio Fiori - NR - Did not play this season.

Christian Abbiati - 6 - Did not play very often but when he did the opposing team usually scored a lot (even though when he played most of
Milan’s reserve defenders played also so it wasn’t all his fault). Has a lot of natural talent and probably will leave this summer in search of
first team football.

Defenders

Lino Marzoratti - NR - Only played one game but the 19 year old showed a lot of maturity and promise for the future.

Cafu - 9 - Outstanding year for the 35 year old. He never stops running and provides priceless crosses for Milan. Provides an explosive attack
on the right side. You would never know he was 35 by the way he plays. My vote for player of the season.

Paolo Maldini - 7 - This guy never ages. Plays as good as any defender younger than him. Played in center and on left. A walking legend of the
game. His leadership is priceless. It truly will be a sad day when Maldini hangs up his boots. Another solid year from the captain.

Kakhaber Kaladze - 5.5 - Good attacker but not so solid on defense. If he could be more consistent he would be a starter. Probably leaving
this summer. Another up and down year for the Georgian.

Alessandro Costacurta - 4.5 - Bad year for the 39 year old. Too slow to keep up with the younger players. Did not show the consistency in front
of his own net he had last year. Should consider retiring this summer.

Alessandro Nesta - 6 - Okay year for the 29 year old. Not as consistent as last year and definitely not as dominating a defender. Will need to
return to last year’s form next year.

Dario Simic - 3 - Did not play very often but when he did the Milan defense was a disaster such as the Coppa Italia second leg against
Udinese. Disastrous year for the Croatian.

Giuseppe Pancaro - 4.5 - Injuries kept him on the bench a lot. Not as solid as last year.

Jaap Stam - 6 - An up and down year. Had great games (Man U) and horrible games (2nd Juventus game). I expected better from him.

Midfielders

Gennaro Gattuso - 7 - Runs his heart out for every minute of every game. A greatly underrated player. Another solid season from “Ringhio” and
has found his place in the Azzurri squad as well. Set to take over as captain when Maldini retires.

Manuel Rui Costa - 7 - Doesn’t get too many opportunities to play but when he does he is excellent. His goal against Brescia in Week 30 was
amazing. A solid season for a truly gifted player.

Clarence Seedorf - 5 - Horrible year for the Dutch midfielder. Too slow and gives possesion away too easily on offense and doesn‘t score very
often. He always disappears in the big games (Liverpool, Juventus). Galliani needs to consider selling him this summer and letting Vogel take
his place.

Andrea Pirlo - 6 - Is essential to the Milan team but was too tired this year. Didn’t get a break last summer because of Olympics and Euro Cup
and was plagued by injuries and fatigue all season long for Milan. Needs to take a long break this summer to get his energy back for next year.

Kaka - 6.5 - Struggled all year to find his form from last season but just could not find it. Okay season anyhow and should be back better
then ever next season.

Massimo Ambrosini - 6.5 - Didn’t get to play much but when he did was usually excellent. In my opinion should play more as he is one of
Milan’s best midfielders.

Vikash Dhorasoo - 7 - Outstanding player. Runs his heart out and has a lot of skill. Doesn’t play much. The question is: Why doesn’t he start?

Serginho - 8 - Amazing season for the Brazilian winger. Provides explosiveness down the left side of the field when he plays. His crosses are
priceless. Had a lot of crucial goals. One of my candidates for player of the season. Another good question is: Why didn’t he start?

Harvej Esajas - NR - Only played one game (in Coppa Italia). Looked decent.

Cristian Brocchi - 6 - Didn’t play much but gives his heart and runs a lot when he does play.

Forwards

Andriy Shevchenko - 7.5 - The Golden Ball winner was not as fantastic as last year (that might partly be because he fractured his cheek bone
in the middle of the season) but he still had 22 total goals (most goals by a Milan player this season) including 17 in Serie A (possibly the
hardest domestic league to score in in the world) and 5 in Champions League (probably the hardest league to score in). Another excellent season
for Sheva.

Filippo Inzaghi - 5 - A disastrous season for “Super-Pippo”. Inzaghi missed most of the season with niggling injuries and only played in 15
games total this season. It seemed like every time Pippo would recover from one injury he would have another one. He only managed to score one
goal total this season (in the Champions League). Not what you would expect from one of Italy’s most prolific strikers. I give him a 5 for
always running and trying his hardest. I expect him back in full force next season if he can avoid injuries.

Hernan Crespo - 7.5 - Found his old form again. Scored some very important and great goals for Milan (17 to be exact) and took some of the
pressure off Shevchenko. Slowed down for a bit but came up big in the big games. I hope that Milan can sign him permanently this summer.
Fantastic season for the Argentine.

Jon Dahl Tomasson - 3 - Horrendous season for the Dane. Was so good last season but could not find that form again this season. Ten goals in
all competitions is just not enough. Needs to be sold this summer to make way for Gilardino.

Coach

Carlo Ancelotti - 4 - Did not win one trophy this season. With a squad of players considered to be the best in the world one would expect more
from this season. Has a better starting line-up and a better bench than both Juve and Liverpool but couldn’t beat either of them. He is way too
loyal to his players and does not let any new players break into the squad. He always sticks to the same starting line-up no matter who the better players are at that moment. Reminds me of Trapattoni when he was at Italy. Also cannot hold leads. Milan are now famous for throwing away
enormous leads (Deportivo last season, PSV, Liverpool). Needs to learn from his mistakes quickly or needs to be sacked

Didn't have the time to send my comments, so I will try to put it here. Sorry for the trouble Zizou.

Pessotto - "The Professor" has been a realible substitute for a player that is 35 years of age. Solid as ever, always put in a good performance in his given roles. He also received a starting line-up at times under Capello, substituing Zebina and Zambrotta when they were injured. His experience is demonstrated on the pitch, and he helps the team when needed. Many people tend to forget who he is, when he has been there doing the work and helping the team for all the games that he played. 7

look.. i supported juve since i was a child and seeing baggio got shipped out because of DP was painful because he's a legend... but then i realized that DP was a real gem for juve, an icon (football likes to use this word)... i admit, he'd helped us a lot.. he's given his all and because of that, many fans adore him... and it might be painful for them to see how bad DP is being treated (from coaches to media).. but i still believe in my eyes... i don't care what people say.. that is.. this season DP deserves to get 7.0 rating... not less and not more.. he had his bad times (don't let me mentioned where and when).. and he also has his high point (the last games of the season)... but i simply don't judge a player's season from his history of 8 years earlier... 04/05 season is 04/05 season... that's about it.. let's hope DP gets better next season.. and zlatan is our main source of attacking move this season (and camo)... a wonderful debut for him...

I think Juve's player of the season is Camoranesi and Im glad that Cafu got a 9 for Milan, there were many debates on who is Milan's player of the season (lol) and most voted for Dida but I'd go with Cafu

Cafu should be given the award, he's still running like a 20 year old when he is 35, providing dangerous crosses for the attackers to score. Dida is 2nd, but he made quite a few fatal mistakes here and there.

Good and fair ratings in both Gazetta and Goal.

Only i think Nedved should get a 7,5 in gazetta and Del Piero should have a 7.

Zlatan vs Del Piero??

Zlatan was better, nothing to discuss, thats just the way it is.

Tottally agree...nobody in their fair mind can say that Zlatan isn't better than DP this season.

I do think DP deserves q full one point gap below Zlatan (atleast)

My ratings on goal.com

Abed Zeidan Rates Juventus 2004/05
6/8/2005 3:47:00 PM
Abed Zeidan rates the winners of the Scudetto.
GOALKEEPERS

1. Buffon 8: Not as flashy as previous years due to a tighter defence (that’s a good thing), made some great saves when tested, did his job exceptionally as the last line of defence. In my opinion played his best game vs Bayer Munich in Munich. Both games vs Milan are up there.

12. Chimenti Antonio 5.5: You would think when you’re finally given the chance to play you’d give it 100%. That was not the case in Coppa Italia. Lazzari made a fool of him scoring 5 goals past him. Not really worth being the second string keeper for a team like Juventus. I expect him to leave this summer.

DEFENDERS

2. Ferrara Ciro 6: This rating is for the season of a substitute defender. Rarely played, but when on the field he never looked like he was gonna mess things up. A true professional who gives it his best, solid.

4. Montero Paolo 4: When on the field Juve’s defence resembled the defence with Legrottaglie in it. Gave 2 points away in the first game vs Parma and nearly caused an embarrassing loss vs Liverpool in Turin.

7. Pessotto Gianluca 6.5: One of the few players that deserve to be on the Juventus bench, a solid substitute that still can give to the team. Played a great game vs Real in Turin.

15. Birindelli Alessandro 5.5: Never looked like a threat to the other team neither looked like a weak link. His best days are behind him.

21. Thuram Lilian 8.5: On the ground, in the air, ramming opponents, Thuram played one of his best seasons at Juve, if not his best. His block shots were crucial. Drove Milan crazy in both games.

27. Zebina Jonathan 8: To be honest I was very critical when Juve signed Zebina last summer. He proved me and many others wrong. Played the best football of his career, his runs were effective and looked very solid in defence. He was finally called up to the French National Team.

28. Cannavaro Fabio 9: Exchanging Fabio for Carini was the steal of the season. Inter thought that he was washed up and are now kicking themselves. Even Galliani made fun of Inter by offering a youth player for Adriano. Was a lion in defence and his attacks proved crucial at times. Deserves to be the captain of Italy, did Inter know that? He finally added the Scudetto to his C.V, well deserved.

MIDFIELDERS

3. Tacchinardi Alessio 5: Did nothing the whole season, when called upon he never look liked like a threat. I’m sure if he goes somewhere where he is guaranteed first team football, he can prove to be useful.

8. Emerson 8: Never a flashy player, didn’t score that many goals but was killer in midfield. Allowed the defence to be more calm and also allowed Zambrotta to go on his trade-mark runs. Rarely lost a midfield battle. His performances have regained him a spot in the Brazilian National Team.

11. Nedved Pavel 7.5: He never looked like he was past his best, it was the injuries that ruined his season. Capello always had faith in him and he bagged Juve the 3 points when we were in a hole. Expect a great season from him next time around.

16. Camoranesi Mauro German 8.5: Terrorized defences everywhere, no one was able to nullify him. His crosses were incredible, too bad Trez wasn’t there to bang them in. Mauro has gotten better every season and deserves a staring shirt with the Azzurri.

18. Appiah Stephen 6: Scored some spectacular goals (2 as I recall), other than that nothing to remember. He should leave Juve and look for first team football to be really appreciated.

19. Zambrotta Gianluca 8.5: Zambrotta named the left side of the field as his own. No one could get passed him and no one could stop him. In my opinion, has taken over No. 1 spot for left backs. It seems likely that Capello will bring Chiellini as a left back and push Zambrotta into midfield where he can be more devastating.

20. Blasi Manuele 6: Never seemed to have the technical skills but was a bulldog in midfield. I’d prefer Gattuso over him though. Would be a good sub. It still confuses me to this day why Maresca wasn’t partnering Emerson in midfield.

23. Kapo Obou Narcisse Olivier 6: Never proved to Capello that he deserves to stay at the club, only memorable moment was his match-winning assist vs Lazio.

24. Olivera 6: Once labelled as the new Rivaldo by Moggi, he looks more like the old Rivaldo. Came down as a sub most of the time and never really did anything to be remembered.

FORWARDS

9. Ibrahimovic Zlatan 9: The best debut for a foreigner in Serie A since Shevchenko. Everyone watched Zlatan grow over the season into more of a team player (even though he’s not there yet). It looks like he’s beginning to learn how to hit the back of the net instead of the goalie. Not a natural finisher and ended up Juve’s highest scorer, imagine what he’ll do when he gets used to scoring goals.

10. Del Piero Alessandro 7.5: Started the season very quietly. Was subbed in almost every game for Zalayeta, this angered Alex but it also made him reflect on his situation and seemed lost at times but at the last part of the season he was Juve’s best player by far and showed everybody that he still has a lot to give. The ultimate professional.

17. Trezeguet David 7: His injuries would not go away, and when they finally did he caught a very rare virus. Scored at a rate of 1 goal for every 2 games. Not bad for a player looking to regain his form on several occasions. Was vital in the win vs Real.

25. Zalayeta Marcelo 7.5: Reminded me of Solskjaer the super-sub. Covered the absence of Trezeguet superbly. Gave some great assists and scored several match-winning goals. I don’t think you’ll find a club who would refuse to have Zalayeta on their bench.

COACH

Capello Fabio 9: Once again proved to the world why he is considered as the best tactician in the world. He knew how to get the best of his squad, note he used almost the same eleven throughout the entire season. Was tough with Del Piero but was able to get the best season out of him since his injury. If ever there was a book on football, be aware that Capello would have written a couple of chapters.
