Juventus and Cagliari have previously squared up twice in Coppa Italia encounters contested in Turin. Both finished with honours even but saw the Bianconeri eliminated over two legs. This time, however, Antonio Conte’s men will be determined to go through on the night itself, even if extra-time and penalties are required to separate the sides.
The first meeting came back on 2 April 1969. Having slipped to a narrow defeat in Sardinia, Juventus found themselves trailing to Brugnera’s strike following an underwhelming first-half at the Comunale. The hosts got back on level terms when Bercellino slotted home a penalty with 69 minutes played.
Both sides again locked horns on 6 May 1987, following a 1-1 first-leg draw in Cagliari. Goals from Rossoblu midfielder Bergamaschi and Bianconeri defender Soldà left the encounter evenly poised at the interval. Platini put the Bianconeri ahead on the hour mark, only for Piras to tuck the ball past Tacconi in the dying stages, securing qualification on the away goals rule.
