Juventus push for Cassano back on
tribalfootball.com - August 22, 2005

Juventus' push for AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano is back in the headlines courtesy of comments made by AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti over the weekend.

Ancelotti admitted he'd love to sign Juve ace Alessandro Del Piero to work as a second striker behind Andrei Shevchenko and Christian Vieri: "Del Piero cannot play in the position Juve and (Italy coach) Lippi are demanding of him. But I can exploit his strengths.

"The Milanello doors will always be open to Del Piero."

Ancelotti's words have fueled talk that Juve will offload Del Piero and use the cash raised to buy Cassano as a direct replacement.

Juve already have an offer on the table for Cassano - cash plus Giorgio Chiellini and Fabrizio Miccoli. The deal involving Milan would solve a major problem also for Juve coach Fabio Capello.

Capello has a frosty relationship with Del Piero and many at Juve believe it would be best for all concerned if they were to sell the Italy international and sign Cassano, a Capello protégé, in his place.

A few days ago, it was said that Moggi told AC Milan that they should sign Cassano! For there is no room in Juve...
